When a team in your conference is ranked #1 in the nation, yet hasn't beaten a OOC Power 5 team since 2011....

When you claim a conference instead of a team......I know what conference that is
This. IMO this conference shit started with the BCS. Prior to that, people were fans of teams. You don't see this kind of shit anywhere else.

We'll see how they feel after ND gets left out of the playoff with a similar record to a conference champ.

If being in a conference was a requirement it would be a 5 team playoff not a 4 team playoff. If ND deserves to be in the playoff they'll be in it.

The B1G is really top heavy because the best teams in each division played the crap in the other divisions for the most part. It was really unbalanced. It was a best case scenario for the B1G this year. That's why 14 team conferences are stupid.
Exactly. And you can thank the megaconference mentality for that.

It's funny, because while OSU's in-conference schedule is what is going to get them in (if we win out), the SEC is almost a hinderance as it's shaping up.

Bama is legit, but if Florida loses to FSU and then Bama, the 2nd best team in the conference will have 3 losses. LSU is heading towards yet another irrelevant bowl, and Arky and Ole Miss are getting smoked OOC by mid-majors. Miss St.'s best game is a 2-point loss to LSU, and then...well...

Your logic is weird. You're probably ugly as well.

ND will never join a conference, and ND regularly schedules great during the season. Don't need to join a dumb conference when ND can get everything offered to them without being in one.
Why is ND in the ACC for all the other sports then?

Obviously meant football. Its no different then when they were in the Big East for everything else. Being independent in soccer is a lot more difficult to manage than football.

you fail to see the point. ND could end up not deserving it because they didn't win a conference Championship.
If its down to the same record and they are comparing ND and another team and the other team is a conference champion the P5 conference champion will more than likely get the nod.

Several years of getting left out might change ND's tune.

I was just being an ass. I knew what you meant.

I keep thinking the "blue bloods" of the other conferences will get tired of subsidizing the coat tail hangers and strike out on their own as well. Let's face it, there are really only a handful of "biggies" instead of the 65ish in the P5s. I see really 3 groups. Biggies, those that think they are biggies but aren't, and those that know they need the biggies and acknowledge they aren't. I'm talking football only here. Because, Kansas and Kentucky are much bigger blue bloods in hoops than UT, OU, Bama, LSU, etc.

Yeah it did work out oddly. But the SEC has had similar seasons. For example, last season Mizzou was the SEC east champ despite a home loss to Indiana. Why? They missed Bama, LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss and Miss St. Similarly last year, Bama didn't face Missou or Georgia, who were the top 2 in their division.

However, unlike the SEC in years past, the 6 ranked B1G teams are split evenly between East and West, so it'll still play out. Recently it's been the SEC West with 4-5 ranked teams and the East with 1, maybe 2.

plus both divisions in the B1G also had some decent OOC wins

I understood your point just fine. And my answer is the same. If winning a conference was a requirement it would be a 5 team playoff. If ND deserves to get in they will. ND will never join a conference for football.

This. IMO this conference shit started with the BCS. Prior to that, people were fans of teams. You don't see this kind of shit anywhere else.

This is pretty true. Because of the way the BCS and the CFP is setup with people who are voting to put teams into the championship games. Teams don't play enough power teams for out of conference games, which means that they truly have to root for their conference to do well not only in the previous years bowls but their current OOC schedule. By having your conference do well in both of those categories boosts your teams ability to climb the latter by beating those in your conference. The whole Power 5 conference thing also doesn't help. Because if you play OOC games against non P5 teams, your schedule is considered weak, although some non P5 schools can compete well against P5 teams. By using the voting system and P5 setup, we create our own monster of conference bigotry. If we can manage to even out the conferences and make scheduling OOC games more demanding for bigger teams and set up a 8 to 16 team playoff, and get rid of voting for poll positions, we could easily go back to enjoying our own teams success and telling the rest of the conference to go suck it. But as it sits we cannot do that at all. Look at Oklahoma, we have to keep rooting for "barf" texas just so that loss doesn't look so damn bad to keep us from getting a spot in the CFP if we win out. We allowed this system to be created, and we keep using it.

Agreed which is why the B1G records are somewhat inflated. Same with the sec last year. Nobody was claiming Mizzou as the 2nd best team in the sec last year.

The reason its not a requirement is only because of ND and that is in case ND has a better record than everyone else left because that is probably what it will take for ND to get in.

might get old to keep being left out with similar record

Wow. ND would get in with a better record. Genius take.

ND will be fine. If 11-1 isn't enough to get in this year I'll disagree, but I'll understand. If the committee values their wins over ND's wins that's fine.
