Huh ? MSU's kicker sucks and he picked it up at just inside the 40. If he falls on it that's a 50+ FG attempt.. longer than anything he's made in his career. He made the right decision. He had blockers and few in blue in his way.

There was also a gusting 15 mph headwind. That might actually make his accuracy better though.

He also had a gigantic screen in front of him that he can see how much time on the clock and no one was coming from behind, so he had one person to worry about and if he was tackled a yard short there would have been enough time to kick the FG

There's lots of times where it is right for a ball carrier to fall or step out of bounds because the risk is not worth the gain even if it means losing out on an immediate score or more yardage. See Heard sliding at the end of the OU game for it being done right. Also, see that ttu-nu game years ago for it NOT being done and losing the game.

In THIS case, the risk of being tackled at the 1 with the clock ticking to zero and LOSING the game isn't worth it considering there is a pile of people in front of you, one of which is s defender with his hands in you.

It is better to run with that ball after the scoop until you encounter that pile at the ~10 and calmly fall or step out protecting the ball at the ~7 and kicking a calm fg for the win
