Yeah, good writeup. Although I don't think the Flyers are embarrassed at all, there is an article that the players, Girioux, the Schenns, Grossman were talking about having a big blowup fight night the day before the game because it turned the season around last year when Emery fought Holtby. They most certainly are not embarrassed in any way.

honestly this comes across as sour grapes.

Team A: 14.6 PIM/game (tops in the league), 25 majors, 9 misconducts, 1 game misconduct
Team B: 10.7 PIM/game, 22 majors, 2 misconducts, 1 game misconduct

Team A is the Pens. So if you want to point your finger at a team that is 'dirty' or delves in to the 'not hockey' portion of the game, look in the mirror.

The Pens dressed:

Bobby Farnham: 11gp, 0 points, 24 PIMs ( 27gp, 4 points, 117 PIMs in the AHL)
Zach Sill: 31gp, 1 point, 48 PIMs
Steve Downie: 40gp, 20 points, 152 PIMs (league leader by 60 PIMs)

Last night, and called Farnham up to play.

The Flyers dressed Rinaldo: 36gp, 2 points, 75 PIMs.

So take your 20 year old stereotypes somewhere else. Rinaldo is a slob, but calling the Flyers organization out when the Pens are just as much to blame for 'garbage hockey' as the Flyers are is ridiculous and outdated.

You can cite all the meaningless statistics you want about penalty minutes etc, but the fact remains the Flyers were the one's last night throwing multiple suspend-able hits, not the Penguins.

Add to that they clearly discussed the day before they both thought that the brawl last year against the Caps turned their season around, and that they wouldn't mind another one.

Add to that Rinaldo's comments after the game about 'changing the game,' and it's pretty obvious where the players stand on the issue.

I hate when stats get in the way of my arguments too. It really sucks.

Clearly is a stretch. Someone wrote an article about it. Care to share the article? I'm sure it was a reputable, unbiased source without a hidden agenda to smear the flyers (Pittsburgh media) or drum up web hits (Philly media).

One guy's postgame comments account for the entire organization now huh? Let's talk to Matt Cooke or James Neal about what the Pens game plan was over the past 5-6 years. I'm sure they can answer for the whole team. Perhaps Downie could give us insight this season?

Please just talk about how the Flyers are a shitty hockey team and will be watching the Pens in the playoffs. At least that's a legit argument. Sorry the Flyers own the Pens.

I thought that hit was worse than Rinaldo's, honestly. Rinaldo threw a very dangerous, very illegal check, but he didn't target the head. Del Zotto appeared to there.

Del Zotto did target the head. I suppose since Pronger runs the discipline department for Gary that more than one Flyer called on the carpet at a time is just one flyer too many.

Was quite the debacle last night. I think i remember reading this board last season after Neal's cheap shots that the Flyers don't play that type of game any more, and the fanbase feigned outrage.. That lasted quite a while, didn't it?

That's when Giroux spoke up to suggest in a joking way that maybe what the Flyers really needed was a night of fighting with the hated rival Pittsburgh Penguins coming to town for the first time this season.
"We were actually talking maybe we need to do something like that," defenseman Luke Schenn said. "That kind of helped us last year turn things around when Ray Emery started something against Washington."

There is nothing to buy/sell, multiple places have it with direct quotes. It happened.

All I care about is the pedestal some pen fans put their team on. The flyers do dirty shit, Rinaldo is a complete scumbag. By and large he's the only one.

The pens have players that do it too. And they're not innocent for last night. You think playing sill, Downie, and Farnham did anything to defuse tension in an already typically fiesty rivalry game? Maybe if the pens played a legitimate hockey player instead of Farnham, they win the game.

There is a difference between being a scumbag, which Rinaldo certainly is, and I'd argue Emery is as well. And acting like a scumbag on certain nights, Del Zotto with the flying elbow, Voracek jumping Scuds, Emery taking a swing at Perron all happened last night.

I forget, how many Pens did dumb stuff last night? Downie pulling the visor, if you want to count that.

Yet it was Pittsburgh yesterday that was spearing (Downie), grabbing the visor (Downie), and calling up a pest (Farnham) to add your their collection of worthless junk as awaz already listed.

Is nobody going to mention Farnham not only dragging Bellemare out of a pile only to get his shit rocked and proceed to punch Bellemare as he was on the ice? It's the same garbage that Pittsburgh has been pulling for years. It is as if 2012 never ended.

You see the other stuff all time. From every nhl team. Player doesn't like a hit, he retaliates. It happens on probably 50% of hip checks thrown. Players don't like that. It's a tad ridiculous of a reaction, but voracek is hardly alone. Goalies taking swings at players happens frequently, and Emery is a pretty fiesty goalie, but he's a backup goalie, how much of a goon can he really be? The elbow I'd have to see again, but Mdz hardly has a history of being a goon.

It's a rivalry game and when they're physical, the flyers tend to win them recently. Of course they talked about playing a physical game. It's proven to work for them when it comes to playing the pens.

Scroll up, the del Zotto video is in this thread. He could have easily been ejected, and probably would have been if Bortuzzo didn't have 1ft on him.

Fair enough man, I just despise that they actually talked about it the day before, reveled in it from last year, and then executed the same gameplan against the Pens.

I agree with all the Downie critiques, 100% true, but Farnham is actually very valuable (not sure why he sits while Sill plays). Yes Farnham has a history of lots of fights, but he's very good at drawing penalties, hitting, skating fast, etc. Pretty much what Rinaldo would be if he knew how to stay on the other side of the line.

I think Emery is a goon, but that's really just based on one incident and his lovely personality.

I liked when Ray chased the trainer down the hallway when he was in the KHL and the trainer tried to put a cap on Ray's head.

Unfortunately can't watch at work haha. I love the physical side of the game though. I could do without Rinaldo altogether, and don't like to see borderline dirty shit either (MDZ). But I love the run of play fights like Voracek/Scuderi, Farnworth/Bellemare, Schenn/Downie. The emotion is what sets hockey apart to me. The Flyers crossed the line a bit perhaps, and on any other night would've paid the price for it. The Pens PP vs Flyers PK was a complete anomaly last night.

But half the reason I love pens/flyers games is because it typically gives us lots to talk about and we're all in the working world together getting through this. :suds:
