well technically yes. in 1965 the AP did a post bowl game poll because everyone was so ticked off at bama. then bama got the last laugh by winning it because the poll was awarded post game that year.

imo you can't argue that you are right simply by state AP/coaches. you should claim all the post bowl claims or all the pre bowl claims and just be consistent with that and all the controversy will go away.

Nobody claimed it based on post bowl or pre bowl. They are claimed based on the polls themselves awarding them that way. You act like Alabama forced them to change those years or like they just ignored post bowl polls when it was done pre-bowl which isn't even close to the truth.

If you want to bitch about a national championship claim for Alabama, then bring up 1941 or stfu.

This is a classic case of fans ignoring the plank in their eye while pointing out the potential splinter in someone else's eye.

And they claim 51, and 55. Michigan State is the worst team in the NCAA when it comes to claiming weaker titles. Well, second worse.

I think they redid the entire NCAA website over last summer. My biggest gripe is the stats pages are all messed up...

it's a pain to use. I wish there was a csv dump of the data.

i think helms are legit. 1941 and 2012 should go without saying hence the reason I am not bringing them up.....

but in the thick of things I think 50 years from now we will look at the bcs titles and associate them more in the same class as helms titles.

They have been naming football champions for about 130 years now. There have been endless newspaper articles and books on this. There's enough reading available to get anybody informed on the subject. Are you telling me that you're total sum of knowledge on the topic comes from looking at one limited web page?

Yes, they have. If by they, you mean not the NCAA. I'm not even sure what we're arguing about, but I'm assuming we are cause of your condescending tone. FBS football does not have an NCAA event to determine an NC as it does in all other sports, so they don't count a school's number of football championships in with their total championships. I'd call that not recognizing them.
