With big wins over Stanford and Texas Tech, two teams from pretty good conferences that have very good over the years, is Pitt definitely considered a final four candidate this year or right now are we just playing pretty weak teams overall? I mean they beat duquense today, I know That's not a huge win but this is a Pitt team that was predicted to finish 6th place in the ACC. Right now they are looking like a team that should be ranked top 5 in The country. I mean once Pitt starts conference play what if they manhandle duke and Jabari Parker or beat up North Carolina? Or steamroll Miami or Syracuse? This Pitt team is very unpredictable right now but it's going Pitts way for the time being, so do you expect Pitt to not be challenged just a little bit until they play the ACC teams? Oh one other question if Pitt makes it to the NCAA tournament can they beat Oklahoma State, and shut down Marcus Smart?

Have to see them against better competition in league play, but they are long, athletic, and can shoot. They have a lot of young players, so they should get better as the season progresses, but right now I would say 'No' to your Final Four Contender question.

I'm interested in seeing Pitt and Syracuse playing in a league that stresses offense, as they come in as mediocre offensive teams and good/great defensive teams. While the heavyweights in the ACC are usually the opposite.

Well they are blowing out Youngstown state right now and it's not even close. How do you see them doing vs duke, North Carolina, Miami, Maryland, Clemson? besides Syracuse. You honestly don't see Pitt blowing them out seriously? Your saying Pitt should pretty much cruise through their non conference schedule until conference play next month?

They play Cincy tomorrow, Pitt will probably be favored by 10 pts.

Would like to see Pitt get into conference before I start believing their metrics to date. But seems like the ACC is down this year, as Duke is a flawed team, UNC is young, anyone else is just good, nothing special, wouldn't be surprised if Pitt and Syracuse are the best teams in the conference this year.

Well they are beating NC State right now, and they are being lead by Lamar Patterson who isn't a great player but for some reason he has been the star of the game so far. Will you be suprised if Pitt wins the ACC?

It looks like the panthers will go 14-1 on the season, and 2-0 in ACC Play. Remember this was a Pitt Team that was supposed to finish 6th in the ACC before the season started. It looks nowhere near that. It's weird how does Jamie Dixon succeed with all of these new players that are coming in this year? I mean look at the roster it isn't an all star lineup, so how are they getting it done? I will be shocked if Pitt goes like 22-1 to finish up the regular season? But the way their playing now I could be wrong. I mean they beat NC state & Maryland I mean that's not saying a whole lot really or is it? I'm sure this Pitt team will get heavily tested come tournament time. I can't see them overpowering Arizona or Syracuse at the moment even though they're playing great. This isn't the same Pitt team who was 2 points away from going to the final four in 2009 and ruined Dejaun Blair chance's of making it to the final 4. I mean they had levance fields, Sam young, Blair, Gilbert brown, Ronald Ramon, that team was loaded and it was far better than this team right now I'm sorry. So their must be a reason why Pitt is cruising right now, maybe because they haven't played anyone tough yet.

Lamar Patterson has been the biggest difference, he does everything well.

Don't think they are as good as the Blair/Young/Fields team, they don't have the rebouding, but I think they could be as good as the Gibbs/Wannamaker/Gilbert Brown team that was a #1 seed in 2010.

We'll see what happens when they play UNC, Duke, UVA, and FSU, but so far beating decent teams by 10 points a game, you can't ask for much more.

Will u be surprised if they go 22-1? I believe that's what their record was when Blair/brown/Ramon/fields team played. Let me ask you this if Lamar Patterson Goes down with a serious injury will Pitt still keep winning the way they are now? It's not possible for Pitt to go cold though right?

I'd be very surprised if they went 22-1. I'm thinking they go 13-5 plus/minus 1 win in conference.

If Patterson got hurt, they would struggle to make the tourney, although serious basketball injuries are very rare.

But this is a team that was supposed to finish 6th like I said in the ACC, do they look like that to you now? Will they eventually start losing? I mean is beating wake forest like Pitt beating Duke when they play them? Who would you say is their toughest test now? No one?

Right now, looks like Syracuse is the team to beat in the ACC, so I'd say that is their toughest. Pitt should beat Duke, but obviously not a guarantee. They match up well against Duke, Pitt's main weakness is a great rebounding team, or a team that plays really slow pace but can be efficient doing so, Duke is neither of those.

I think FSU or UVA fit the description of a team that could unexpectedly give them problems though.

Seems clear Pitt is better than 6th in the league.

Pitt is looking really good right now, almost beating Syracuse at the carrier dome..how come Pitt has so much success at Syracuse? Why does Jamie Dixon has so much success vs Jim Boeheim? Who do you think is the better coach if it came down to it? Pitt not just beat Clemson last night but they destroyed them. How is this team having so much success in their first year of the ACC? Are you sure this pitt team as of now if they keep this up, are not better than the Blair,Young,Ramon,Fields squad in 09' or just as good? If you had to say is this Pitt team strong enough to go to the final four right now? Will they choke down the stretch or run into a poor shooting drought? Is any of that possible or not likely? They will continue to dominate down the stretch and succeed in the NCAA tournament? I mean what if Pitt plays one of those scary lights out 3 point shooting teams in one of the early rounds of the tournament? Would Pitt be in trouble or they can handle a smaller school that can really shoot the rock?

I think the way Pitt plays is a good matchup against the zone, plus the team has always been great at passing and rebounding.

ACC just isn't that great this year, the depth isn't good either.

Right now, I wouldn't say they are good enough to go to the final four, I've seen better Pitt teams than this, and they each have faltered. Especially considering Pitt, to my knowledge under Dixon, has never beaten a higher seeded team in the NCAA tourney.

Especially since they just lost their best 3pt shooter a few games ago, and there is no logical replacement.

Also, teams that can get to the defensive and offensive glass is the worst matchup. And team raining threes isn't likely to beat them, unless they keep getting the offensive rebounds on their misses.

All of Pitts metrics equate ( as of right now ) to a S16/Elite 8 caliber team. They rank 12th in my latest poll using SOS, offensive efficiency, defensive efficiency, rebounding ( special focus on offensive rebounding), turnover per possession. The only true concerns I have about Pitt is their backcourts ability to take a game over late and some small rebounding issues. As of right now Id have the Panthers as a S16 team which is pretty damn good.

I tend to agree, Lamar Patterson has been playing point forward pretty much this year. But late in games they need someone to step up. Hopefully it will be him.
