It's incredibly unpopular to mention that Cal Ripken wasn't even a good baseball player. If he were an ass, more would agree but most people don't even want to look at his stats.

I think you have to put Cal Ripken Jr. in the same class as Mariano Rivera. I mean, how else do you explain being able to play that long without a day off? Dude had to be so jacked up on HGH he was like Superman, and as for all the attention he got?

Mariano threw a cutter for 20 yrs with nary a shoulder or elbow injury and at 57 yrs old, he still has no perceptible loss of performance.

Who cares? He was a below-average player. He doesn't even make most clubs' rosters for most of his career. He has one thing: a completely irrelevant record that propelled him to a household name.

Like I've said before: Cal Ripken is easily the most overrated athlete in the history of professional sports. Too bad he's such a likable guy.
