IMO it’s too early to get any bat of significance and that’s what they need. A player like the Santana types are the guys you right now isn’t it? Seems wasteful to me to give up one of the prospects arms right now.Chuck Powell seems to still think this is a WC team as built right now. Thoughts?
He also thinks they will be aggressive and get a solid bat in the coming weeks. Like someone worthy of giving up one of our farm arms for it.
I'm not seeing it. Help me find that crazy level of optimism.
Last year they got Carlos freaking Santana. Why are we supposed to belive they are going to do something radically different this year?
This is a broken record every year with Dipoto offseason. The phrase, "Failure to prepare is preparing to fail". A team desperate for a bat each and every offseason should never be in this position where they have to give up vital assets for something they can just buy before the season. This is the biggest irk I have with Dipoto/ownership. It is just bad baseball.Chuck Powell seems to still think this is a WC team as built right now. Thoughts?

No solution with this roster. We have about 4-5 nightly starters who actually belong in a MLB line up.I don't see it happening.
I don't know what it is, but this is where hitters come to die. Teoscar is having a career worse year before he's supposed to get paid. Kolten Wong playing like one of the worst players in baseball, AJ Pollock somehow incredibly worse than last year.
We're now being beat up by the Yankees at home with a supposedly great pitching matchup. I don't know what the solution is, but I don't know if there is one to even be had on the trade market.
Yeah that was my question. Chuck and Buck think this right now is a WC contending team and I just don't see it. They aren't even that close IMO. Too many bad plays in the field, too many boneheaded decisions on the bases, a staff that won't pull a struggling starter until the game is already out of hand, and there is no clear cut leader on this team that can pull them through team slumps. No solution with this roster. The rest are garbage. Maybe 1 of every 5 games they will look like a big leaguer, but that just doesn't cut it.
Our ball club will be lucky to finish .500 from what I have seen thus far this season
us playing NYY is like men against boys. Very eye opening to the talent difference.
I'm totally with you on this one. SOS every damn season. It is cool to see what a good team looks like. Just sucks to see how far away we really are. As much I fall into the hype every year, it's not really close. We just don't spend and try to play money-ball every F'n year.
That’s the key, we should be a top 5 budget team but we’re always around 15th or so… M’s just won’t change there blueprint when it comes to spending, and they generate plenty of revenue with the unique situation they’re in … It’s not by accident we’re the only team in the MLB now to never sniff a World Series.., I think Dipoto overall has done a good job, but if the ownership won’t let him spend we’re gonna keep bringing in average players… M’s had a legit shot to get over the hump this year and they went cheap…It is cool to see what a good team looks like.
