Also - Playstation doesn't find it odd when after 10 years of logging in from one location, you suddenly login from Algeria.
Well, you keep threatening here to leave the country. Maybe they took you seriously. :)

Yes, when I think of first world places to go to a place where you can be late to work due to camels fucking in the road tops the list!

For a while today, I had assumed that the people who tried to steal my playstation account signed my email up for all kinds of mailing lists after not getting to play FIFA.

Turns out it wasn't that. It's just that Microsoft has no idea how to run their own product.

And as a side note I created that Hotmail address in 1996 and used it until it became an unusable mass of crap and I happened to know a guy who worked at Google and I got one of the first gmail addresses. So I decided to use that hotmail for gaming (Playstation, Steam and Xbox) only. After all this time it's almost healed itself. I still get ads from the old Carbonite backup service that I can't get rid of no matter how often I unsubscribe but otherwise it's pretty much all relevant email now.

man, i remember searching message boards looking for gmail invites.
then when you finally got one, you were king of the world as you could distribute them.

you are right, that came at just the right time, as hotmail had become a hotmess.
I abandoned my hotmail altogether after enough time to transition contacts over.

I still have a Hotmail account which gets used anytime a business needs an email. I probably get 50+ spam mails a day and maybe 1 "real" email a week.

But I have a pristine Gmail account that close friends and family send me stuff through never gets junk or spam.

Gmail hit at just the right time too when people were realizing it was better to have something like first.last so you could out it on resumes or give it to clerks.

Nobody was taking a resume seriously that had hunkman69420 at the top of it.

Well, almost nobody.

That explains some things. I need to update my resume.

A new record. 3 years of being owned before you realize it

All they are saying is Cyberattack, but all their websites, customer service call centers, authentication mechanisms and streaming services are offline. At this point, I am not sure what *is* working.

Sounds like an internal ransomware attack.

The hackers don't have any demands, they just figured disrupting the system for a week would give the remaining subscribers time to realize their mistake and get out.

Indigo: dear employees, we have been hacked and your personal information is at risk unless we pay a ransom
Employees: that's terrible! I assume you will protect our data

Long story short - if you have a Samsung Galaxy phone, your cars android auto is by Samsung or you have a Samsung wearable device turn off wifi calling immediately.

Hopefully they get it patched soon. This is a big one.

i was able to find Volte to disable, but for wifi calling, would that be like calling on WhatsApp? or is there a separate thing...

I think its a setting so if you do not have a cell service you can place calls over a WiFi connection.

I have a Samsung S20 and cannot find the setting anywhere, my carrier says its enabled though...

I keep asking Bixby but hes not being very helpful

On my One Plus phone it is in Settings > Mobile Network > More > SIM Info and Settings. Toggle switch to enable or disable WiFi calling.

It's a holdout from before unlimited data but after smart phones. When you had to pay for minutes. You could call when connected to WiFi without using mobile data. It's silly to even have on phones nowadays and it's clear they haven't been paying attention to the security of it.

This is a vulnerability in the underlying system that communicates between the cell towers and phones and the way Samsung chips process that traffic.
