Green Bay lost when a win would have sent them to the playoffs, the team that beat them posted a little of what the QB and others said before the game.

It would be absolutely awful if you could make multiple forward passes. I wouldn’t like football if you could. It would end up being like soccer or like lacrosse in a way that you would just constantly throw it anytime somebody tries to tackle you. There would be multiple changes of possession, over and over, and then, there would be backward passes like soccer. There would be times where you just stay on the one side of the field back-and-forth. Shutter.

The execution of that video, with the slam noise, was annoying.

Maybe this is why I usually have the sound off, and have to always say "I'll watch this later."

They did also go for it on a 4th down. That might have been on a later drive.

In the second half down by 30 or more always go for it. I don’t know about college football, but the biggest NFL comeback was 33 points. I think if you’re down by 34 or more, always go for it. And I know that your chances of succeeding when they know that you’re going to go for it is smaller. But then again, if you know you’re going to go for it, instead of needing to get 4 yards on third down, you might need to get 4 yards on two downs (3rd and 4th together).

I also understand if you’re down by 58 points, you’re just trying to get the game over. You are thinking maybe that the other team will just use clock to run out the game and neither side should be aggressive so as to avoid injuries. I know you can get injured on any play, but it’s going to be less chances when you’re not trying to rip the other guys head off.

Yes, like soccer. And I’m exaggerating a little bit, especially at the beginning. But if they introduced this rule that you could pass any time in any direction, it would only be a matter of time until teams start thinking of other options. At first, maybe, the defense just decides and trying to get the ball rather than advance it, and so there would be some differences, but I think it would be ridiculous to be able to keep basketball action multiple times.

I think the better example would be rugby, but still, my description was basically to indicate how I thought it was just going to be a bunch of running around for no reason for a lot of it.

Then add a 10 second shot clock.

A forward motion attempt (pass; run; etc.) must be made within 10 seconds.

That will hinder teams from not trying to advance the ball.

No, I think anything trying to make this work would be stupid. In my honest and correct opinion.

Kirk Cousins is looking good.

That was a fun end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th for Minnesota.

This could go in the free throws thread.

The Cowboys kicker has missed two PATs in the first half so far.

Another rule: You can stick out your arm, but your hand has to be open ("a stiff arm"), not closed. Closing your hand would be considered a punch.
Why are stiff arms allowed?

Or, why are stiff arms allowed, but not closed fists? Seems like either neither should be allowed, or both.

Thoughts?

I learned another rule.

Apparently you're allowed to be out of bounds, as the offensive player, if the defense touches the ball first, and you, the offensive player, then reestablish position in bounds.

This makes the game complicated again.

Just have in bounds be in bounds, and out of bounds be out of bounds. Period.

It’s the same thing in basketball as far as establishing yourself in bounds. Imagine if you would be able to run out of bounds behind your teammates and come out the other side at any random spot on the field and catch the ball? I know that’s impractical because the quarterback doesn’t have that much time to throw the ball, but it’s still an EASY rule to understand even if it is one more rule.

Stiff arms are basically just keeping the other player away from you. A punch is designed for something different. How would you define a punch versus a stiff arm if you didn’t use the hand being in a grip or open? That’s why they say Will Smith slapped Chris Rock and not punched.

What? I've never seen anyone be allowed to be out of bounds in basketball, and not get called for it.

This was the first time I've seen someone in football be out of bounds, and not get called for it, because the defense touched the ball first.

Don't allow stiff arms.

He wasn’t out of bounds. He went out and came back in and established himself as in bounds. Once the defensive player touchEd the ball, it was a loose ball to use an analogy. No one is going to draw up a play where they intend on going out of bounds and having the defensive player touch the ball before the offense does, so I don’t see a problem with it. It’s not going to be abused. In basketball you can go out of bounds and come back in as long as you establish yourself.

It’s like when Scottie Pippen threw the ball off for players back. He was the first player to touch the ball after that. They could easily have a rule saying that the first offensive player to touch the ball cannot be the inbounded, but they don’t. They say that once anyone else touches the ball, the ball is free. I understand. It does not say once the defense touches the ball, but it’s kind of the same thing.
