The number of teams willing to max out their payroll grows larger every year. In the big picture, that is a good thing for MLB as a whole. Just not so good for us (in those years we seek to do so).
When the signing of Sean Manaea becomes official, the Giants will have an estimated payroll of $162.5M against the cap according to Cots. This puts them roughly $70.5M below the $233M CBT threshold.

They had a payroll of $173M and $171M against the cap in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

We should be able, if the FO chooses to do so, to pretty much max out for 2023. We have about $60mm in relatively dead money getting paid out in 2023 that stops after 2023, allowing for future growth:

I think the current official term for the “long guy” is “Bulk Pitcher”. That doesn’t sound right, so I doubt it will stick, but that is what I heard it referred to as a lot last season.
"Bulk pitcher" sounds like something you'd pick up at a Sam's Club. Or a nickname for Bartolo Colon.

Why the FUDGE are we paying that tub o’ goo 20m this year?

That is probably the worst thing that happened to the Giants this off season. Not losing out on Judge.

Cueto is fun to watch. And when he actually takes the bump, he is usually pretty good. So a 2/20 would be a decent value.

But I am not certain this team needs that asset. I am not certain what that adds to this team.

Sadly, that IS our best hitter you're talking about.

As long as he is the DH ONLY, there are worse moves we could have made.

FA hitters like to be where other hitters are.

Well, when your #5 starter went 8-12 with an ERA of 5.10, there is a lot of room for improvement.

Now this guy seems like a good one to stash on the 60 day IL. He looked really good in 2022 and pretty good in 2021 as well.

You don't think he will put up 2.5 WAR as primary DH?

Seems very reasonable to me.

apparently, we were in on Sean Murphy until he got dealt to ATL.

FZ is clearly not a Bart believer.

Bart's season was very uneven. Still, seems a bit early to walk away from him. Of course, at this point, the only possible option would be for the Giants to acquire a Blue Jay catcher.

We just got Stripling for 2/25 with an opt out. Another solid get by FZ. Wood is now the long guy.

The Giants now have an estimated payroll of $175M against the cap, giving them $58M in payroll space before hitting the $233M CBT threshold. When the Stripling/Manaea signings are made official, they will need to make 2 corresponding moves as the 40-man roster is full.

I like this signing. My only “gripe” is that he is a 4-IP pitcher. But that is just what pitchers are these days, so I need to get over that.

Webb
Cobb
Manaea
Stripling
Disco

Wood
Junis
Hjelle
Harrison

Deep, but still not as top heavy as I would like.

So, just a better version of Wood? Maybe the two of them will pitch in games together and only need a closer on good days.

Bottom line stats here a little deceiving. 8 of his appearances were in relief, early in 2022.

If my math was correct, in his 24 starts he pitched 125 innings, so 5+ IP/GS.

Not great, but 5 > 4.
