I know..playing defense is a novel concept

The time for defense playing was with 13 seconds left in the 4th quarter. That’s when Buffalo lost the game.

Playing defense in OT is a coin flip. The coin flip winner becomes the game winner over 90% of the time. “Just play defense” doesn’t seem to add up.

Josh Allen’s magnificence forced this rule change. I don’t see how it ruins anything. Tit for tat makes for exciting football. If it’s good enough for a FG it should be good enough for a TD.

I guess I have recency bias, but the facts remain. The coin flip is the problem.

I liked an idea a caller gave on the radio - sudden death and the home team gets the ball to start OT.

No questions that way - play for the win late if you're on the road.

I might prefer the team that ties the game to go into OT, kicks off in OT.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it ruins anything..unlike the DH and the outlawing of playing defense in the MLB certainly ruins things..but it's just BS this whole notion of 'fairness." you had 60 minutes of fairness to win, and you didn't, so either stop them from scoring, or suck it up and accept the 'L'..life ain't fair

DK to Chiefs doesnt make any sense. Again, teams take the deep ball away from KC. Also, why not just pay Hill? DK is almost certainly going to make as much or more
Meh...they don't have to just keep banging your heads against the wall of a cover2 shell, you can force the defense out of it, and then go over the top when the opportunity presents itself ..but it requires a commitment to the running game.
I could certainly see DK in KC, he's got more game than just running deep (much to my chagrin as I didn't like him coming out), but you're right, currently they wouldn't be able to maximize him.

I'm actually fine with trading him, but have to be for a package that makes sense. Can the Seahawks replace him with a late first? Not likely so what would be the point? If the Jets ( who lose out on Hill) Lions or Jags are interested and willing to start with their 2023 first then a conversation is worth having. Think all three of those teams could use a WR like Metcalf. Packers and Chiefs don't have the ammo so forget it about it.

No Way Whatever GIF by Folgers
Packers have more than enough ammo. Just hope they are smart enough to not do it. Not anti Metcalf but we need young/cheap WRs to grow as we transition in the next 1-5 years, fuck if I know how long at this point.

What if they just kept playing, treating the end of regulation to OT like going from the 1st quarter to the 2nd quarter? No coin flip and whoever had the ball at the end of regulation continues their drive?

I think this combined with no sudden death and playing another full quarter would make for the best way to go about it.

Not IMO, but I guess opinions vary on that. To me if you don't have a likely early 2023 first, you don't have the ammo period, because there isn't any thing else that would make it worth the Seahawks trading him for. Seahawks have plenty of draft capitol this year and even more next year. Should be able to restock the roster nicely, but a top 5 2023 pick so they could draft their next hopeful franchise is the ONE, the ONLY, thing worth moving Metcalf for.
Don't worry Packers and Chiefs are not trading for Metcalf.

I know the packers aren’t. They wouldn’t want to give up the capital and then pay him. If, and I mean if, Metcalf gets traded, I would be baffled if someone gave up a top 5 pick for him. The beauty of the rookie contract is massive

It's for a first, the top 5 part is about projecting which teams will have one next year.

Ultimately couldn't believe anything about Wilson, why believe anything now?

Speaking Tuesday, Seahawks GM John Schneider said that it is "our intent" to extend contract-year WR DK Metcalf.

The Seahawks notably said the exact same thing about Russell Wilson. Schneider also again complained about the exploding market for wide receivers, as he did last week, saying: "But yeah there is a bit of, whoa, but then you have to figure out, where’s the cap going? What it’s going to look like? How do you build your team?" Pete Carroll used the exact same word, "intend," in speaking about Metcalf earlier on Tuesday. There sure seems to be reason to believe Metcalf could be traded if the Seahawks aren't comfortable paying what the market is now bearing.

@averagejoe : You should start a new thread: Coachspeak: Fact or Fiction.

I would, but for whatever reason, I think you'd be better suited for it. :)

Speaking Tuesday, Seahawks GM John Schneider called TE Will Dissly a "core dude on the offense."

He also implied that the Seahawks had to pay Dissly more money than expected because "another team that knows Dissly well was coming after him." You don't know the team, they're in Canada. Dissly has yet to play more than 60% of the offensive snaps or create more than 300 receiving yards in a season, but the Seahawks valued his leadership enough to overpay him. Noah Fant will be the Seahawks tight end who draws targets this year, and even those targets might not be all that fantasy-valuable.

Take it every thing with a grain of salt, however Metcalf is saying things that sounds like he's open to resigning. Made remarks about trying to fill the void left by departure of Wags and RW for example and been projecting a very positive vibe about the Seahawks.

Pete Carroll seems to be the spokesman for most of this stuff, but I don't believe it's coming from him.

Par for the course. I mean you can’t expect them to say, “we’re down the river without a paddle, come bend us over.”

Thinking more about this - what if it's 0-0? We're kind of assuming a late score sends it to overtime, but it could be a game where nobody has scored for a while, and in that case the attraction of that rule fades a little.

i think I like the home team idea... if we could make it so an 8-9 division winner doesn't host an 11-6 wild card.

Didn’t think of that. Touche

Also if the tie score came in the 3rd quarter. I didn’t think it through

I am sure this is so rare that it has only happened literally a handful of times. If its 0-0 after 60 minutes, each team deserves a tie. No extra time.
If it happens in the playoffs, flip a coin to decide the winner.

2 times and the last was 1943. Both times involved the Lions of course. Oddly enough there have been 5 games that ended 2-0.
