To get something for Gallo since he didn't agree to the contract they offered and then have assets to flip or do with as you wish.

Gallo never was going to be much more than a good defender and a guy with power that got on base. When it was really needed, the guy didn't get it done at the plate most of the time. Never hurt my feelings to see him go and get something vs. nothing for him in return
I am not questioning trading him. I am questioning the assets they targeted in conjunction with the free agents they are targeting. Yes, they can flip them, but that usually brings back less than full value for a team in the situation we will be in.

One thing I think I would like to see is a rethinking of how many MIF we need to pursue both in trades and in drafting.

Watch us go out and draft a SS with our top pick 8 months from now. Lol

Well...

my guess is they were following the same idea of "draft the best player available, regardless of need."
You can take that idea to the extreme and build a lesser team and a shorter window by doing so. I understand the idea, but I think it can be taken too far.

By the way, I would not draft a MIF in the first 5 rounds next year.

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with the approach for the draft or for trading. But as an explanation that makes some sense, for why the Rangers traded for who they did, it's pretty much all I got.

Maybe they were the best players the Yankees were willing to part with.

Then you never know who is actually going to make it to FA and who’s going to resign beforehand. The kids are assets we’ll have to just wait and see what happens with them, not all pegs fit in the holes we want them to fit in…

I think it was the best haul they were going to get.

Too many good prospects is a great problem to have, and I'll take that any day over trading an All Star SP, solid RP, and a decent P prospect for Spencer Howard.

Can't waste draft picks on MIF if you forfeit them to other teams from signing free agents

Draft picks are great and all but give me the proven guys and I’ll pay for them. They could always regress and have down years but a prospect can never reach their ceiling or flame out too, before they get to the BIGS!

Suzuki won't sign before lockout

Japanese outfielder Seiya Suzuki, the 15th best free agent available this winter, will not sign prior to the owners locking out the players on Wednesday. Agent Joel Wolfe told media, including Jim Allen, that between eight and 15 teams have shown interest in signing Suzuki to date.

Suzuki is subject to the posting system, meaning teams have a 30-day window to sign him to a contract; otherwise, he'll return to being part of Nippon Professional Baseball's Hiroshima Toyo Carp. Should the lockout occur as expected, Suzuki's window will be paused until the new Collective Bargaining is ratified by both sides.

For those wondering, Suzuki will not be signing before the lockout occurs. Wolfe confirmed as much, telling the media that he had turned down multiple teams hoping to ink him over the next day-plus.
which means that we're not going to be able to do anything about him for a while so we should push hard on the trade point and go after Marte or Mullins

At least with the Gibson trade we didn't get any players who will be blocked from their eventual placement. There is never a lack of room on the waiver wire. No such thing as being blocked from the waiver wire.

It look like we will get Seager.

I wonder if we will pull off any trades prior to the lockout. Maybe a multiple player deal with Oakland.

2 rent a players and a prospect for 3 prospects one of which has the potential to be a #2 or #1 starter from what he's shown in the Minors and has a 100MPH pitch...

Who was the last good Phillie pitcher to come out of their farm system. :noidea: Is this because the prospects are no good or because maybe their system is like the Rangers, not good at grooming prospects  The Phillies used him as a starter then RP then SP again, that would kinda mess with his head and his mechanics. Give them a chance to unphuck his head/mechanics before concluding he stinks. Sometimes all that's needed is a change of scenery to change ones outlook on life... :thumb:
