You always try and make a team better but spending over the top is not the answer. Ask the Astros/Yankees. Bet it will not work with LAA either.
Spending over the top is what we did for Choo. It is not what the Angel's did for Rendon. They have done that with other players, but not this time.

I don't know if you are aiming that at me but i'm not pushing for us to ever attempt to spend over the top like the Astros and Yankees and Dodgers and the Red Sox have done but I am in favor of spending when it fills a need. Choo's $21M comes off the books after next season I think the $9M going to Fielder comes off after next season too. that clears $30M off our payroll.
Not at you. Just saying teams have spent and spent and still come up short. Houston has been the latest victim.

yeah I read what you posted and only a damn fool would even consider your offer and MLB GM's aren't fools
JD has acted the fool a few times.

Hey, I offered to throw in more and you had a fit. I would give more if necessary, just like I stated.

If my team spends and comes up only as short as the Astros did, that is better than not spending and trying to just be in the WC race.

Be a defeatist if you want to, but a good GM could have unloaded Choo and Odor. What we would have gotten for them would not have been necessary to win 86 games this coming year and that is what you wanted.

You are purposely lowering Minor's value when it comes to trading him and then reinstating that value when it comes to his pitching for us.

Lol
no i'm not playing around with Minor's value. on competitive teams who are looking for pitching they have number 1's, 2's and probably 3's that are a lot better than Minor so they would be trading for him to step into maybe the 3 or 4 spot on their rotation so what they would offer for him would reflect what they think he's worth and not what we think we should get. that's what happened at the trade deadline this last season, JD got offered what he was worth to the offering team and it wasn't much. so JD hung on to him. now you would have taken whatever

do you really think Colorado would take Odor and Choo in any trade offer? no matter how much money we threw in. that trade offer would be dead before JD finished offering it.

and I agree with you. I am opposed to the Rangers overspending for the wrong players but when a Rendon or Arrenado or even a Cole comes along you make the move.

consider the return they would want, I'm not sure I'd even listen to what they want. Not blocking our young 3B guys for the next 6-7 years is why I am ok with missing on Rendon. My issue with the Rendon thing is that JD showed he's an idiot and can't read a market.

JD and idiots are words that do not belong together

Keeping good players can at times be enticing for free agents. They insert that in basketball ala the dream teams. Not against trading guys but get a substantial haul. Maybe there good move is extending Minor

The Rangers reportedly had the next-highest bid for Rendon — a six-year, $192 million contract that was more than $50 million below what he got from the Angels (albeit in a state with no income tax). The Nationals reportedly offered seven years at $210 million to $215 million before Rendon became a free agent. So, considering that $245 million for Rendon is seemingly an outlier, it’s doubtful a team interested in Arenado would take on his entire contract and give up premium young talent.
