Just saw this on the CFB reddit:

The 2-7 UCLA Bruins' Path to a Pac-12 Championship
renderTimingPixel.png

The Bruins are still very much alive in the Pac-12 race and it's not inconceivable them to make the Pac-12 Championship. The following would need to take place:

  1. UCLA Wins out (Wins over @ASU, USC, Stanford) - Would give UCLA the tie-breakers over ASU/USC and they already hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Arizona

  2. Arizona loses one more game (@Wash St or ASU)

  3. Utah loses both conference games remaining (Oregon and @Colorado)

  4. Colorado loses against Wash St this week
Even if the Pac-12 South teams win all other games not listed above here, the final standings would be:

UCLA 5-4

USC 5-4

ASU/UofA 5-4

Colorado 4-5

Utah 4-5

ASU/UofA 4-5

UCLA wins by virtue of head-to-head tiebreakers over the tied teams

The 5-7 Bruins would be your Pac-12 South Champion and would play the North winner for the Pac-12 Championship in Santa Clara. Win that game and UCLA wins the Pac-12

Let's hope that no UCLA fan has gone out and booked a motel room in Santa Clara

Yeah we definitely can't assume that. It's upsetting that I'm this concerned about a Sparty team that's 113th in the nation in scoring and 98th in passing defense from a YPG perspective, but I definitely am.

Well, you will know more than me, but from afar, it almost appears
that Urban has lost this team. They turned it up when they had
to vs Nebraska, and that's a credit to them, but it should have never
been that close. It was the same performance that they gave
against Purdue. The players just don't look like they're playing
100%. (Linebackers have been pitiful)

I'm guessing that if OSU loses to michigan and they beat NW in the CCG, OSU will wind up in the Rose Bowl. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they have the option to take them since they'd have the same conference record as NW and a better overall record.

Pretty sure they can take whoever they want if the conference champion is in the playoff. They’ll take Ohio State in that situation for sure.

New Orleans wishes with all their might that Tennessee's football program rise from the doldrums and return to the Sugar Bowl. They yearn for the genial, free-spending horde of traveling Volunteers fans. No fan base comes close to our economic impact.

They have 30 years to save up between each appearance. No wonder they spend so much.

Im on my phone and it's hard to find the rose bowl selection on here for some reason, but I'm pretty sure they can pass on one of the pac/b1g champ if they aren't high enough.

If WSU wins out they are in the rose, anyone else im not sure it's that simple.

Yeah it's been rough. I'm hoping like hell next year they have Alex Grinch take over the DC job entirely. He and Greg Schiano are doing the "co-DC" thing and they have very different philosophies, and it's showing up as a defense that just looks lost. It was nice seeing Brendan White finally get playing time and he looked fantastic, and Malik Harrison looked better than he has all year. While I think Adrian Martinez is going to be a really good QB over the next 3 years, he shouldn't have been able to do what he did. At least next year we won't be breaking in as many new starters on defense as we have this year (only 3 returning starters), so I hope that makes a difference.

So that's what I'd thought originally too, but I wasn't sure if that was just the rule during the BCS or if it carried over now.

This really could be one of the worst years for Conference championship games based on what's happening in the B1G West, ACC Coastal and Pac 12 South.

Like seriously who wants to watch Clemson vs Pitt or Ohio State/Michigan vs Northwestern?

I need Sparty to win. I have no confidence we can break the curse.

Almost certain, is not certain. OSU still has to play Mich State.
They lose to them and Michigan they may have issues getting
that bid.
Michigan in in if we win out. We occupy the spot already. We aren't going to get jumped by winning out.

UGA beats Bama and I could see a scenario where it's Clemson, ND, Bama and UGA.

Is new CCG blood better or worse?

Is it better to have conference races to determine CCG participants come down to the final couple of weeks? Or is it better to determine them earlier?

I for one vote that Alabama be granted a bye every year to the CCG. If we could just be declared National Champion during August and forget all this playoff nonsense that would be great too...m'kay.

I don't know man. I don't think the loser of a conference game can make it in, period. Bama or not.

Both will be 12-1(Bama/Mich) Both will have lost to a CFP team(assuming ND/UGA win out) Both would have similar resumes. And Michigan won't get any credit for beating a shitty NW team.

But the problem here is that they'd be taking two teams from 1 conference, one not being a conference champ. And they'd have to unseat a conference champ with the same record to do so (with a tougher SOS). Just don't see it happening. Bama would drop to #5 in that scenario.

I have no idea how you don't. After seeing what Martinez did to us, and how our offense still shot themselves in the foot with ugly turnovers against a bad defense, I don't see how you don't leave with at least a 14 point win, but probably more.

I'm jut guessing if the Rose had a chance to get OSU back there after 9 years, they'd love it. Plus, OSU vs. Washington State would be awfully entertaining.

With Urban having his final meltdown in LA, at least they could get him over to UCLA Med. Ctr. quickly

Yes, ATF, I'm just jabbing with you.
