Georgia/Bama SEC Title Game Potential

If UGA & Bama are both undefeated and play in SEC title game, are they both in CFP regardless?

  • Yes

  • No

  • Still too much season left to say for sure

  • Probably, but it has to be a close game

  • They make good potato salads in the south

If Georgia and Alabama each make it to the SEC Title Game undefeated, then they should both be locked into the College Football Playoff at that point, right? I realize there is a lot of football left and it could still depend on how the rest of the season plays out. But if things go fairly normal where basically everybody loses at least 1 game anyway then how could you keep out an 12-1 SEC team who has only lost to a 13-0 SEC champion? Especially if the game is close as well.

Easy no.

OSU, Oklahoma, and Clemson can't be undefeated.

If they are, the loser is SOL.

Depends on the game IMO. If UGA were to get destroyed then whats the point? Give someone else a shot to take down Bama. Or vica versa. Also assuming other deserving one loss teams of course

No, these conference games should be defacto playoff games. Why would the loser of the game get another shot?

Why would we want to see that game again?
We would have just seen who was the better team in the SEC Championship game.

It's the last game of the year.
We know what that outcome is.

The answer is no.

Things can change a lot in a rematch. Just like Auburn and Georgia last year. It was only a few week span and Auburn killed Georgia in game 1 and then got destroyed in game 2.

Then why play the game at all then.

Maybe schedule Georgia more than 21 times in 58 years, then get back to me on it.

Fuck that shit.

Both SEC divisions are pretty close this year. Obviously Bama and Georgia are the favorites, don't count out LSU or Auburn and we still don't know just how good Kentucky is and aside from their game against Georgia, they have a pretty easy schedule. Florida has LSU and Georgia so that could eliminate them from discussions. Florida and Auburn both have Georgia and Alabama still to play. I'd say it's safe to say that it's Georgia and Bama, but stranger things have happened in College Football.

Just ask Virginia Tech fans....:dhd::dhd:

Locked? No. Neither played a particularly difficult non-conference schedule and by “locking” that in you are setting a dangerous precedent. Now if you have a bunch of 2+ loss teams as conference champs, then that opens up the discussion.

Don't forget Notre Dame. What about this scenario:

1-loss Bama beats undefeated UGA in the SECCG

OSU/ND/Oklahoma/Clemson are unbeaten

One of them unbeatens gonna be pissed. They won't leave Bama out

What if an undefeated OU beats WV in Morgantown and then turns around and lossed to them the following week in Dallas? Would the Big 12 still go and which team?

So what if 1-loss UGA beats Bama in the SECCCG? Do you put UGA in over Clemson? Or does Bama get in over Clemson?

No. Bama brand is more proven than Georgia brand. Brand holds a good amount of sway along with resume in CFB

I could see Bama getting left out if they lost that last game. But if they win the SEC with one loss, I'd bet they are in

What the heck does how much they've played in the past have to do with whether or not they should both make the playoffs this year?
