Yes, they are different. The Bengals approach to FA isn't wrong - Several franchises use the same approach. I don't have an issue with it. That's where similarities end.

The Rooney family employs football people to make football decisions. Their football operations staff is more than twice the size of the Bengals and not simply filled with old family friends. There is a reason they get so much out of mid-round draft picks. They have better facilities because they invest. And their culture isn't built on excuses and hopes that failures won't repeat themselves.

Is Tomlin a good coach? I don't think so.... And I suspect his days are numbered. We'll see.

We actually get more production out of our mid-round picks than we do top level picks. 3-5 is a decent haul for us usually, where only a smaller percentage of those guys last.

According to the NY Post, they rank the NFL's best Drafting teams. Cincinnati ranked 10th, Pittsburgh ranked 23rd. https://nypost.com/2016/04/24/ranking-from-1-32-the-nfls-best-teams-at-drafting/

Of course, this is still a debatable list because it is opinion based still, not factual, but 10th to 23rd is a long distance between ranks.

Another site that weights the value of drafts overall among all 32 teams. Cincinnati 9th, Pittsburgh 19th
Here Are The NFL Teams That Play The Highest Draft Picks

Once again, opinion, not fact. These however, are not Cincinnati biased sources like the Enquirer or Hobson.

I am just saying, our mid round picks are not terrible. Many teams whiff on those picks. Pittsburgh just gets more intensity out of their mid round picks than we do. They instill a certain mindset into their players, and it has helped. Pittsburgh's defense has fallen quite a ways since Polamalu was roaming their secondary. They have turned their attention to the offense with successful offensive picks and not near as many defensive ones. It helps the defense a lot when you have so much talent on offense they can put 30-40 points on the board every single week. That is spearheaded by 3 players pretty much with a decent oline to give the QB time. Roethlisberger, Brown, Bell. Bell may be on his way out. Roethlisberger is getting older, and while Brown is a rare talent, he is getting a bit older also.

We also finally found a player that can cover him, Jackson.

I will not deny that Pittsburgh is a pretty good team, with a great offense and the right culture and mindset to put a hurting on us. I just do not see them being a lot more talented than us, better at drafting than us, better coaching staff than us, etc. I see the organizations pretty similar except in the fact that they breed excellence because of mindset and past success. Doesn't hurt they have a franchise QB like Roethlisberger either. Andy is not bad, but Roethlisberger has always made something out of nothing, and Dalton needs more assistance than Ben does to make things happen.

We’ve had good talent for 8 years now. Nothing to show for it. I’m tired of hearing about it.

The Steelers kick our ass because they are better where it matters. Leadership. Better culture. Better FO. Andy is nowhere as good as Ben.

Tomlin isn’t a terrific coach, but other than that the Steelers have every advantage.

Who cares who drafts a better free safety? Winning is what matters. The Steelers do it historically. The Bengals don’t. Until that changes, that’s the reality.

Both of those articles are from 2016. If the criteria they use were useful at all, teams like the Bengals, Dolphins, Bills, Cardinals and Raiders should not be in the top 10. Have any of those teams won a playoff game this century?

Let your own eyes tell you the story. Pittsburgh is better than us at every position group on offense. And its not even close. Defensively it may appear we have more talent, but we don't get as good of results as they do in either yards or scoring. Finally, even with a shaky head coach, Pittsburgh wins. Cincinnati doesn't.

*shrugs* Like I said, they have a better mentality than us and have the better of the most important position, QB. Until the QB play improves a lot and the mentality of the team improves, we will do what we are doing.

Pretty sure Mike Brown didn't fumble in the 2015 playoff game that lost us that game.

I hate this argument. It's like the argument that we shouldn't blame the coaches because they aren't actually playing the game.

Mike Brown is in charge of the team. He's in charge of the guys that picked Jeremy Hill. He's in charge of the guys that enabled a culture of non-accountability that led to the embarrassment of that night in 2015. He's totally to blame for that loss as he is for every loss we have. He'll get credit when they win.... Or, I should say, he would get credit if they win, though the likelihood is low. That's probably more accurate.

I'm thinking this might be the year I finally stop watching the Bengals cold turkey.

should be easy for pre-season and fall, there are other things to do, family stuff, yard work, and so on.

If the Bengals are out of the playoffs by the time it gets cold, then the temptation should be easy to pass on.

...

Do you think I can do it?

I tried it with the Jets during the Kotite "error". Couldn't pull it off

Leadership takes the fall when results are produced. This is true in every aspect of society. Fair or not.

Except for Cincinnati. Where there’s always a excuse or a scapegoat as to why the job wasn’t done right. Even though the same two guys, Mike and Marvin, have been in charge through it all.

Sad thing is, there’s still a healthy portion of the fanbase who buys into the bullshit.

The Bengals hope to win.

Steelers expect to win, and crush us when they play.

That is the difference, and it starts at the top and trickles its way down to the players on the field.

I heard Andy Dalton threw a dozen pick 6's.

To be fair though, Ross cost that pick 6. Dalton threw it right on time with the cutback.

But still, no excuses. Both of them need to work on their communication.

Would that communication be: Don't fall down? LOL

Throw was on the money. Dalton did his job 100%. Ross failed.

I fail to see where Andy gets criticism on a timing throw where the receiver can’t stand on his own two feet.

Ross needs to get his shit together.

If he intentionally passed to a receiver who was laying on the ground, then he is a piece of shit.

not saying he did though, resisting the temptation to look at the replay.
