:gaah:

At least you're not a Wolves fan.

They've been actively finding ways to capture defeat in the face of victory since passing on Kobe in the draft back in 1996. All because they were "too afraid to draft two guys right out of high school for two years in a row" to pair Kobe with KG. Oddly enough, had they just hung onto Ray Allen after that draft instead of trading him for Stephon Marbury, it's entirely possible that they could have eventually gotten a title or two out of pairing Allen with KG as young stars in their primes.

*sigh* I really need to just leave this thread and quit reminding myself about all of this... :gaah:

The post bird Celtics were pretty bad. Including taking Antoine walker ahead of Kobe and taking Ron Mercer ahead of Tracy mcgrady.

That doesn’t even get into trading the pick that became Andre Miller for vitaly potapenko and the Jerome Moiso selection in 2000. Or taking joe forte to play him out of position instead of the guy who was mocked there for about a whole month th before the draft: Tony Parker.

Boston Celtics NBA championships - 17
Minnesota Timberwolves NBA championships - 0. Titles lost when the Lakers moved to L.A. - 5

I think we've got it significantly worse than you Celtics folks do. :suds:

McHale is still a complete moron! I am thankful KG got his ring though...

Oh, I agree he's moron. He was a Celtic after all. lol

But he did the right thing as far as trading KG and starting the rebuild process.

He may not have performed well on the rebuild, but starting it was the right call.

It was the right call no question but I remember seeing KG on the Mark Rosen show before it happened and he was kinda misty eyed talking about leaving Sota... I am being a bit selfish in wishing he had spent his entire career in Minnesota but I was actually a Celtics supporter when they were playing for the Championship with KG.

You're right that KG would never have gotten a ring in Minnesota. If it was going to happen, it would have been in that '04-'05 season where KG was MVP and on a mission to tear through the league. Unfortunately Sam Cassell injured his back and limited what he could do in the series against the Lakers (fortunate for you though, I suppose), Latrell Sprewell decided that a $21 million contract couldn't "feed his family" in the following season, and the wheels totally fell off the wagon. KG still initially wanted to stick around and have the Wolves build the team around him, which is what McHale SHOULD have done. KG still had a legit 6+ years left in the tank at that point to do it. Obviously, it all worked out for the best for KG, as McHale proved to be completely incompetent at building a team besides getting lucky with the brief KG/Cassell/Sprewell trio.

Agree. Imo, he made the right call re: KG, but he screwed up the rebuild. Sprewell leaving didn't help either.

To be completely fair and in hindsight, had Minny been able to keep he team together and/or rebuild around KG, they may have gotten their ring. It was shortly after that when the Shaq/Kobe Lakers imploded.

Yeah, I remember him not wanting to leave. It seemed like he truly loved being there and would have been happy to finish his career there, even with no ring.

I know you were too young to enjoy the tail end of Bird and company, but that simply isn't true.

Since you have been old enough to enjoy it, the Celtics have a championship and they have had a handful of deep playoff runs. The Wolves, on the other hand, have won two playoff series in their franchise history. Both in the same season.

There is no comparison.

Just looked it up.

Since the Twolves originated in 1990 the Celtics have won 20 playoff series with 1 title, 1 Finals loss and 4 losses in the conference Finals.

Most fan bases would gladly take that.

I’m still trying to figure out how Thibs didn’t take OG with that pick he somehow got back in the butler deal.

He was born to play for him. Huge mistake.

I think the shine is off Thibs as a head coach. He may be better suited to be a defensive assistant.

So you're saying the Celtics are the only team to make some mistakes on draft day? Got it. The Trail Blazers (Bowie over MJ & Oden over KD) say hello.:heh:

The post Bird Celtics have had rough stretches, but you have to factor in the deaths of Len Bias and Reggie Lewis. That's a lot to overcome (and I hate those damn Leprechauns).

Blazers had a top 50 all-time NBA SG already; it's not like it was a position of need.
