Hello plorsters, hope y'all are having a swell summer. The season inches closer and there's nothing more fun than unscientific speculation, so here's a possible gander at the 2018 season:

9/1 Akron - W 35-12
Skers have the typical first-week blunders but build more confidence in one game than the entirety of last season.
9/8 Colorado - W 28-24
Close game with a wild finish and an old-school feel.
9/15 Troy - W 49-7
Solid momentum-building and a resurgence of playing with swagger.
9/22 @Michigan - L 38-24
A well-coached Michigan snuffs out Nebraska's weaknesses. Learning experience for the team, but sticking around til the end reflects the attitude of a Frost-lead team.
9/29 Purdue - W 34-14
Mistakes patched up, cleaner football, fewer turnovers.
10/6 @Wisconsin - L 24-21
Close matchup as usual, but the Badgers are better prepared than a team with first-season leadership.
10/13 @Northwestern - W 31-17
Wildcats hang tight but the Huskers don't break.
10/20 Minnesota - W 42 - 20
Nebraska displays an explosive side.
11/3 @Ohio State - L 31-14
The Bucks are tough to overcome, especially in front of a Columbus crowd.
11/10 Illinois - W 30-13
Yep.
11/17 Michigan State - W 38-21
Mhm.
11/23 @Iowa - W 31-21
Few punishments are worse than losing to Iowa. Huskers pull through.

9-3 is definitely optimistic, but certainly not unfeasible for a Scott Frost staff that retained familiar faces from UCF, making the transition process into a new role at Nebraska relatively smooth for the first season. A bowl win caps a solid 10-win 2018 season, and the bar is raised to promising levels for the program.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are we’re in real bad shape, if we make a bowl I’ll consider that huge success

Your optimism is admirable.

Your logic is flawed.

Anything more than 5 wins would be exceeding expectations.

I wouldn't complain about 9-3 tho.

Heh, I've also paid zero attention to the roster so that may be a contributing factor. Stranger things have happened in college football though. :thumb:

2018 Nebraska 4-8

9/1 Akron - W
9/8 Colorado - W
9/15 Troy - L
9/22 @Michigan - L
9/29 Purdue - L but maybe a win
10/6 @Wisconsin - L blowout
10/13 @Northwestern - L tough for two road games in a row, and just after being spanked in Madison.
10/20 Minnesota - W Minnesota is in just as bad of shape as Nebraska, but why did the star JUCO QB quit the school?
11/3 @Ohio State - L blowout
11/10 Illinois - W
11/17 Michigan State - L, maybe a win because Nebraska has voodoo on Michigan State but Mich State returns a lot of starters
11/23 @Iowa - L

3-9 worst case scenario.
7-5 best case scenario

Sorry, too much rebuilding going on. Too many new faces. New schemes. It won't be a winning season.

2019 i will be drinking more koolaid.

My wife asked me if I wanted to go to the Ohio State game in Columbus. I have no idea where that came from. I would not want to pay a lot of money for tickets and watch the over-match.

I would rather attend the Northwestern game or the Iowa game. I think Nebraska has a way outside chance to win those games. Northwestern because Nebraska Northwestern are always close games. Iowa because just maybe Nebraska can be going in with a chip on their shoulder to prove they are not as bad as the season showed and would like to knock off Iowa in Iowa City. Set the stage for 2019.

I don't think Iowa will be having an awesome season, but it will be a winning one, and I don't think Nebraska will be having a winning season, so the tickets MIGHT be affordable. Usually, Iowa fans do not part with their tickets but if it is going to be cold and the game doesn't really matter, then maybe I can score some.

I really think 6 wins fits the medium.

There are 4 should-wins probably (Akron, Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois). I don’t think a good staff like we have will lose any of those.

There are 5 could wins (Troy, Purdue, Northwestern, Michigan State, Iowa.) I think we can get 2 of those.

And there are 3 shouldn’t wins. I won’t name those 3 cocksuckers. We should lose all 3 of those.

I see 9-3 all day. Only I have us beating Michigan and losing to Michigan state for some reason.

Yes. New QB this year, but whoever wins the job has been in the program for a couple of years. The O line returns 3 starters and lots of depth. Good WR corp and decent running backs.
They had a top 20 defense last year, but are replacing half of the starters. But, the backups played as much as the starters did last year.
Solid roster and good coaches. It's gonna be a task to beat them. They pose a bigger threat than either Perdue or Northwestern, IMHO.

Troy gets decent talent that the SEC doesn't grab.
Like a Southern Miss, they are known to surprise people.
I expect they'd have beaten a Mike Riley Nebraska team.
Probably a coin flip on a bopleeny Nebraska team.

I'm glad Akron is the opener and not Troy. I think there is room for error with Akron and still get the W.
They say most improvement is made between week 1 and week 2, so having Troy on week 3 hopefully things are starting to fall in place regarding assignments.
