Oh that's what you were arguing? Sorry. I thought the discussion was about where OKC should be on the top 16 rankings. My bad I must have missed part of the conversation.

You really think the Pelicans or Twolves would be a top 3 team in the East?

Pelicans definitely.

Wolves, I don't know. Possibly.

You seem much higher on the Pelicans than I am. Payton has been a bust to this point in his career. Holiday is a decent player but last season was his first healthy season in a long time.

I think Anthony Davis might be able to beat the Raptors 1 on 5.

Maybe but the Raptors beat them both times they played them last year.

The Raptors are not a good playoff team because they aren't structurally well suited to do well in the playoffs. But they did win 59 games last year. They were 19-11 against the West last year.

Sure.

This isn't about who is going to have the best record though. It is about are the best teams. Toronto will win 50 some games again, but they are pretenders and everybody knows it.

How did you come to this conclusion that this was about who are the best teams vs. who will have the best record?

Reading the opening post again, it looks more like seeding where teams will finish if we had a 1-16 ranking system and scrapped conferences.

Also, how do you evaluate who's better?

I mean, some situations are obvious.

Healthy Kawhi and the Spurs record would have been different.

But, a team like the Wolves?

They should have been better on paper.

They weren't. So, I'm not ranking them over the Raptors, Philly....maybe not even Indy.

The post title is "rank the 16 best teams" that is what I did.

That may not have been OP's intention, but that is what makes sense to me. If this was supposed to be about record, that should have been more clear. Because the conferences have never been more imbalanced.

Yeah, I see your point.

Funny how two people can see the exact same thing.

Yet, come to separate conclusions on the meaning.

I didn't respond to your Minnesota question either.

They have one of the the largest variances between ceiling and floor wins/losses in the entire league. They were the 3rd best team in the West when Butler was healthy, but chemistry issues there are very real.

They should be a top 5 team in the West. But, it also wouldn't shock me if they finished 10th and missed the playoffs.

I don't think I have ever seen a 5-10 as good as what the West has this year. Crazy.

Agree.

The Lakers will be better for obvious reasons.

The Thunder * I know you arent high on them * , Nugz, Grizz will be better due to health.

Houston will be a smidge worse. But, not enough to shift the balance.

Its going to be more hellish than usual to get a playoff spot in the West.

If I had to pick who won't get in....

I'd say the Pelicans and Griz.

Spurs gonna Spur.

In all honesty I have no idea how the Lakers are going to fare this season. I'm fairly confident in finally reaching the playoffs again but the Western Conference is a complete crapshoot this upcoming season.

I think you finish in the 4-6 range.

Health is likely the only thing that would derail a playoff appearance.

It wouldn't surprise me if you beat any Team from the Thunder down.

Utah is the only Team that I think would be a issue, matchup wise.

My prediction is 4th seed, 2nd round out.
