RBI = run batted in, or, runs batted in
RBIs = runs batted ins, or run batted ins. One is both dumbassery and redundant. The other is just dumbassery.

English, motherfucker. Do you speak it?

Who cares? Either way, it's still a garbage stat.

i don't believe it is garbage...sure it is imperfect... probably works better as a ratio stat, but all stats work better as a ratio....

It would be a lot better if you cite how they've hit with men on/RISP.

only if it uses AB not PA... and maybe even give a half a hit value for a sacrifice...

Take it a step further: percentage of runners in scoring position that were driven in, that way you get a little more credit when you drive in two and also lose out on credit when you only drive in one of two.

I also agree with the poster who said partial credit should be given for advancing a runner with a 'good out', but only if that runner ultimately scores.

I really wish there was a way to do this. Or credit a player for advancing a runner from 1st to 3rd on a double and the runner scores afterwards.

The AB versus PA gets complicated. What if a walk advances a baserunner? Wouldn't that be even better than a sacrifice in that it does not result in an out?

of course there is a way... thing about stats is that you can create a stat that shows whatever you want to be shown...

Problem with the stats that are available is that most are imperfect, even for what they are trying to show...

but we don't care about advancing the runner, we only care about when the runner scores... so sure, some walks can be RBIs... Would be nice to get those in the calculation somehow... but not the walk that moves a runner to third, or a walk that moves nobody anywhere...

And the true problem with stats is that their value, to the media, is based on how they are perceived by the consuming public. The consuming public does not give a shit about sacrifices even though they are valued by the players, managers and knowledgeable fans. ESPN does not have a highlight real for quality outs.

Which is weird, because so many things in this world are perfect. . .

The Eagles won the Super Bowl and the Red Sox are on pace for well over 100 wins. I'd say my world's been pretty perfect.

edit: If only my grammar was perfect.

I'd say my world's been pretty perfert.

See Mauer, Joe.

Not his fault he inexplicably bats leadoff behind the pitcher in NL games.

His massive decline could at least be used properly by a competent manager.

It's RBI to me and it's a good stat. Not as good as a HR or SB but still a good stat.
