Just putting this here. He would not be able to be a free agent at the end of his contract if he were to sit out. I don't think he's that dumb.
Well isn't that what he did last season? Played 9 games then demanded they allow him to get another opinion from an outside dr & then he sat the rest of the season, yes?

its actually a fair question.

I dont know how that works- if he gets service time if he just sits on his ass. I highly highly doubt he would get service time if he just sat out. If he sat out obviously they would not have to pay him- but would he get service time?

My initial guess is no, and I would be HIGHLY surprised if it was anything but no.

Last year he got service time because he was "injured". It would be a LOT harder to cry wolf about an injury after having played 9 games in like however many months- 16 months or whatever it would be this year.

So if he isn't traded before the start of this season then he plays a couple of games & then claims he's reinjured?

Athletes shouldn't be in charge of their careers and just do whatever the team tells them to do?

C'mon now.

Isaiah Thomas is exhibit A.

I can't agree with the Iggy comparison either. Iggy was all-rookie 1st team, all NBA defense 1st team and 2nd team, and made an all-star team. Maybe Wilson Chandler.
True.

He might be closer to Wilson Chandler but better defensively. Chandler is an average defender IMO.

I think you'd be a little naive if you didn't think Isaiah Thomas pushed to play rather than being pushed.

What I mean is... the C's didn't have to put him in a headlock. He's a man and made a choice... there is no evidence at all that Boston misled him in any way.

Trading him after he aggravated his injury trying to win a playoff series was about as cold blooded as it gets.

My point was Leonard saw him come back and get hurt again....not that Boston was to blame but Leonard wasn't going to come back because SA wanted him to....and therefore risk himself getting re-injured.

Taking emotion out of it... it was absolutely the right decision to make.

I won't argue that it wasn't cold blooded, though...

And when his sister also died during the playoffs....

In a case like that he would literally play one game just to fulfill his contract

He'd never get away with it and he'd get screwed if the Spurs or any other team took him to court. One games does not a season make..............................unless you're severly injured and miss the rest of that season........ie: Gordon Hayward

And what if he claims he's injured after one game?

How are they going to prove that?

Of course they should have control, which is why FA exists.
But that is not the same as what's happening with Kawhi and you know that. He should fulfill his contractual obligation by playing - and keep his mouth shut while doing it & leave when it's his turn to explore FA.

Situations like these franchise guys forcing their way out of long term contracts is the ammunition these owners need as supporting factors to why they shouldn't give guys guaranteed money. SMH.

Was it any more cold-blooded than low-balling a free agency offer (if one was even forthcoming)? Had the trade opportunity not arisen, he was quite likely going to be left on the street for some one else to sign.
