However, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what his "camp" is suggesting he do if he's not traded to the Lakers.

Yeah. His camp could be totally screwing him.

The TORONTO Raptors

I am guessing Kawhi could be "the man" in a big cosmopolitan city like Toronto, and maybe even resign.

I am not sure exactly what SA expects to get back

Derozan + Raptors player FOR Kawhi/Mills

Meh..... would probably need to do some draft pick juggling stuff as well
He isn't getting traded to the Raps.

So the Sixers continue to discuss trade possibilities with the Spurs.

The impasse sounds like the number of draft picks the Spurs want. The Sixers apparently are willing to give up Covington, Saric, and the Miami pick. The Spurs want 2 additional 1st rounders which the Sixers won't give up..

Sixers unwilling to spend too much for Kawhi Leonard

If Kawhi weren't so high maintenance it might be a risk worth taking...

... Philly's future draft picks project to be in the late first round... so maybe if they could compromise on 1 additional future 1st rounder?... would Philly fans be amenable to that?

IF they are able to get some sort of sense that Kawhi would be willing to re-sign in Philly then the Miami pick and the Sixers 1st next year would be ok with me.

I would be very sad to see Saric go. But I don't see how we would could say no.

I tend to agree with you... Philly would launch into co-favorite... arguably the favorite... in the East if they pulled off that trade...

... with some potential, depending on how things come together, to be a realistic challenger to Golden State as early as next year.

Covington is replaceable. Saric hurts a little, but the gain of adding Kawhi makes up for that and then some... and then some. ;)

There are already some connections in place with Kawhi and Philly, yes? And Philly is privy to all Kawhi's medical stuff.

This is the right risk to take.

Yeah pretty much agree with all of this. Losing Saric would definitely hurt as that would create a bit of a whole in the lineup at the 4. But you deal with that if you get one of the top 5 players in basketball.

With the way the NBA is moving, Kawhi could absorb some minutes at the 4 spot... I'm sure another body would be added too.

The C's have had luck adding a guy like a Jerebko or Theis in the past... role players like that are findable...

Guys like Kawhi are much tougher to find.

Yeah. We can find a replacement for Saric if needed.

SA is insane.

Their approach makes sense, really. Start off shooting for the moon. If they don't get it, they can always lower their requirements.

It does seems like they have no appetite for trading to the Lakers so, IMO, the Lakers will need to wildly come over the top of whatever the Sixers will offer.

From what I've read the Spurs will demand Ingram plus others and it doesn't sound like the Lakers are willing to move Ingram period. They would prefer to keep Ingram and wait until next year's FA class.

Yeah and if the Spurs wait too long (trade deadline) they'll have to settle for peanuts IMO.

The only way they wait until the trade deadline is they think there is a chance to rehabilitate the relationship. If they know that they can't keep Kawhi already, which I suspect they do, then they probably have a deadline of around September with August being the most likely window for trading him.

If you are Buford, you are hoping some other team comes out of nowhere and goes all in. It's certainly not unheard of but I think it is unlikely.

But I could see a situation where the Heat, as an example, believe they can woo Kawhi and they are willing to give up Richardson and/or Winslow plus some picks for Kawhi.

There's a rumor that the Sixers are the only EC team that Kawhi would consider signing with long term.

I guess the question would be...Do the Sixers trust that enough to meet the Spurs demands?

Apparently there is some talk about Toronto dealing Lowry or DeRozan for Kawhi. I assume they'd need to add some picks or something for the Spurs to agree.

Could see them taking that chance with Kawhi, even as a 1 year rental. Especially with Lebron out of the East. They may see this as their shot.

@TurnUpTheHeat, @Heatles84

That would be a great offseason pickup.

But, Riley has "lost his fastball" and has indicated he won't trade a king's ransom for a player.

Yeah. Toronto is another team I could see shooting the Moon for Kawhi. But they would be taking a HUGE risk as I don't think there is a chance in hell that Kawhi would stay in Toronto. Philly is acceptable because it is a huge city, 2 hours from New York. Hell, Redick lives in Williamsburg and commutes to Philly.
