Mookie turns 26 in October

Trout turns 27 next month

We dont need to display numbers at this point. IMO, it's a very tough call. Edge goes to trout for OBP/walks, but mookie is a year younger.
I would have chosen Mookie two years ago and nothing has happened to change my mind since. Before he got hurt earlier this season, the pace he was on was just insane. After returning from the DL, it took him about a week to get rolling again, but since June 20th he's been sporting an OPS of about 1.100.

Sub par seasons like last year for Mookie don't happen for Trout

He's on a planet all by himself with Mookie leading the next tier
You can hide from Zig all you want but you can't hide from your homerism. You hate the REd Sox and therefore can not give Mookie credit.

1.071 since June 20. Which is very very very good, but also lower than what Trout has put up over the last two seasons combined (908 PAs).

Betts puts together 275 ABs that are comparable to what Trout's been doing for the last six and a half seasons and suddenly there's a debate as to which player should be taken first.

Betts is having a monster season thus far, but anyone that would take him over Trout at this point is retarded.

Betts is closing in on Trout's 174 career OPS+........

I should have known better, but was totally shocked that Trout is only a year and change older than Betts.

Bill James once argued that it's hard to get good similarity scores for the greatest players simply because they are so extraordinary that there aren't many similar players...note that the #10 result for Trout is 871.4 (Pujols) while Betts' is 935.4 (Ben Grieve???).
nynasty's post also points out one of the humorous aspects of similarity scores...Trout is similar to Mel Ott? Betts is similar to GREG LUZINSKI??? It's a useful tool, I'm just saying it can be funny to look at the people who end up having similar numbers...

Trout all the way, I'd still love to have Betts as a GM or manager.

Exactly. Betts is a great young player having a fantastic season, but I'd like to see two or three Trout-like seasons from him before I'd even consider choosing Betts over Trout.

unfortunately this isn't even close... and Mookie seems like he is going to be a stud for a long time too... But Trout is on pace to being an all time Great... like top 5 ever... even if you want to call their offense a tie, which this season it is close.. Age is not a concern, so who would take a RF over a CF if similar offense?? that's right NOBODY!!!

I'd go with Trout too, but in addition to all the outfield positions, Mookie can play 2b.

One would think if Betts was very proficient at second, they'd be looking to slid his bat in there and replace that garden gnome.

They probably would consider it if that garden gnome was retiring but can't have Mookie bouncing around positions when the little one comes back.
