Patterson and Peterson shouldn't be above Dabo. Yea, that's my homer opinion, but Dabo has a Natty, 7 - 10+ win seasons in a row (2011-2017), 6 division C'ships, and 4 conference C'ships (the last 3 in a row). He is 101-30 with a .771 winning %.

Not to shabby for a wr's coach and part time real estate agent turned head coach.

Dat Boy. What a coach. I got him solid at #3. 1000% he’s in. He could quit tomorrow and should still easily be in.

I think Patterson should be without a doubt. His contribution to defense in football is profound. Personally, I just think both are better coaches. Dabo reminds me of Mack. Great recruiter, but I have no idea what he really adds to the program in development and Xs and Os. I will admit I have a bias against CEO coaches.

To each his own. And you're absolutely correct, Dabo is a CEO type coach, yet extremely successful. If you're judging by innovation when it comes to X's and O's, he's probably not your guy, but if you're judging by wins and losses and overall results, he has to be included.

You'll get no argument out of me. I think the guy is phenomenal. It hasn't always been that way though. I was ready to strangle him during his first 5 years. Trying times for sure, but well worth the frustration.

Who I think easily is in.

Nick Saban
Urban Meyer
Bill Snyder - not level of Saban or Meyer, but is level of a HOF HC he was under Hayden Fry.

Who I think has just barely made it in.

Dabo Swinney - Lately he has been a HOF HC, but is it enough?
Mark Richt - He is quite consistent
Jimbo Fisher - I think he did just good enough to be a HOF.

Borderline, and I am leaning to just made it in, but can see argument for not in yet.

Gary Patterson - mainly for what TCU did as a mid-major
Chris Peterson - mainly for coaching at Boise State. Not long enough tenure at Washington IMO.
Bobby Petrino - don't like him but he has an impressive resume
Chip Kelly - did great at Oregon, but was there for only 4 years

Who I think just missed out, whether for more time or who's resume just doesn't live up.

Kirk Ferentz
Mark Dantonio
Brian Kelly
David Shaw
James Franklin
Richt and Fisher aren't any better than the ones in the two groups below them IMHO. In fact, I'd take most of the others over them. Again, JMO.

Head coaches that need either a few more 9+ win seasons or conference championships or just 1 national title

1. Kirk Ferentz
2. Pat Fitzgerald
3. Ken Niumatalolo
4. Brian Kelly
5. Jimbo Fischer
6. Bobby Petrino

So
None of those guys.

If he keeps going it won't be a question. The first half of his career he seemed like a bumbling fool. He has found his groove recently. I just want to see if he caught lightening in a bottle or this is something sustainable. Kind of where people were on Mack and once he went back with Colt the HOF was assured

True. I was beyond frustrated during his first 5 years. Losing to FSU and Sakerlina every year, losing to USF in a bowl game and getting blown out on the national stage in the Orange Bowl against WVU. Yea, I was not sold at that point, but since then he has been stellar and I agree, I want to see continued success.

I'm sure it was frustrating. There were two reasons I thought Dabo had a good chance to make it...even though there was some issues those first five years.

1. IIRC, he gave up some HC salary when he was first hired and diverted it to assistant pay so he could attract/retain quality.
2. He was willing to take a chance and go unconventional when he hired a high school coach as OC.

He won me over with those. He may not be all that great with Xs and Os, but those two things showed me he was smart in other ways.

He hired Morris from Tulsa. They do seem to pump out solid minds from there

True. IIRC it was Todd Graham that hired him from Lake Travis.

But Morris was only at Tulsa one season so he wasn't overly "established" as a college coach.

I am hoping that after 15 more years of 10+ win seasons, that Paul Chryst will appear on these lists. Have to schedule tougher first.

He won't need 15, but 3 won't do it. He will be if he stays at Wisconsin. What was Bielema thinking?
