Kevin Garnett, and even he got tired of the organization before bailing to win a title with Boston.

He didn't get tired of the organization and bail, he didn't wanna leave but McDumbass said it's time to move on.

The best part of the Butler trade is not paying Lavine 20 million a year. Now when Butler opts out hopefully Teague follows suit.

The biggest issue is Wiggins and I see no solution for that though.

In league where Levine gets 20m there’s a trade partner for Wiggins

If you don't have anything nice to say...
I'm not the one that started this thread, the question by the op - suggests some one said something good about Minnesota - Not a bad team, but just wondering why they were being attacked when I don't see one

True. I was summarizing that situation quite a bit. You're right in that it was McHale deciding to tear down the ship and get rid of KG than anything else. KG initially didn't want to get traded and eventually just eased his stance on it to allow it. Pretty sure he had a no trade clause in his contract with the Wolves at the time. Glen Taylor is another unfortunate problem with the franchise. He's a terrible NBA owner, to the point of allowing the franchise's relationship with KG to be ruined multiple times. It's a double-edged sword though, as it's hard to imagine the team staying in Minnesota for long under most other ownership scenarios.

They'll never get an established NBA coach to Minnesota that can really change the culture for the better there. They've got to get rid of Thibs and start with a fresh coach new to head coaching in the NBA and hope for the best. It's the only semi-realistic chance they have at getting anywhere. Too bad Thibs is probably here to stay until the entire base of the current roster is dismantled and they're back to starting all over yet again.

Thibs as the head coach is turning out to be the worst thing about this team. Trying to make Jimmy Butler the center piece of a hopeful contender was a huge mistake. If they had actually planned to build a team that had any remote chance of competing with the Warriors for the West, they needed to make Butler the 3rd option and focus on the development of Towns and Wiggins as the main guys. If Towns/Wiggins can't ever live up to their hype and be willing to stick around Minnesota, the project is certain to fail. As someone else pointed out, Butler seems convinced that he's better than he is, and likely wouldn't have been satisfied with such a role anyway. He's a good first/second option on a decent/good team, but certainly not on a team that you're trying to build to compete with Golden State or LeBron teams.

Their best chance at trying to steady the ship would have been to keep Kevin Garnett involved with the team in some sort of coaching/front office capacity. He would have been their best bet at keeping a fire lit under Towns and Wiggins to keep their development on track. But instead, they decided not to do that. Go figure.

Actually, McHale did him a favor, imo. KG gave everything he had to try to bring Minnesota a title, but just couldn't get it done and the window had closed. McHale was rightfully trying to start the rebuild and to do that, he needed to move KG.

McHale traded him while he still had something in the tank. If not for McHale trading him, KG likely never gets a ring.

Towns has to be kept at all cost. Butler will be gone after this season and they should look to trade Wiggins ASAP.

You're right that KG would never have gotten a ring in Minnesota. If it was going to happen, it would have been in that '04-'05 season where KG was MVP and on a mission to tear through the league. Unfortunately Sam Cassell injured his back and limited what he could do in the series against the Lakers (fortunate for you though, I suppose), Latrell Sprewell decided that a $21 million contract couldn't "feed his family" in the following season, and the wheels totally fell off the wagon. KG still initially wanted to stick around and have the Wolves build the team around him, which is what McHale SHOULD have done. KG still had a legit 6+ years left in the tank at that point to do it. Obviously, it all worked out for the best for KG, as McHale proved to be completely incompetent at building a team besides getting lucky with the brief KG/Cassell/Sprewell trio.

I agree. Towns needs to be kept as the main guy, and they need to try to trade Wiggins for whatever they can get.

It won't happen, but they should try to trade Wiggins and draft picks for either Kyrie or possibly Kawhi. I don't think keeping things as is will work out anyway. Kyrie said before that he'd like to play with the Wolves and he and Butler have made it clear they'd like to play together, so maybe that would actually work out. Not sure what it would take to land Kyrie, though. They should have sent Wiggins back to Cleveland for Kyrie last season.

No thanks on Kawhi

I agree, the Kawhi concept probably isn't very good. But I think going for Kyrie would make perfect sense given that he's expressed interest not only in playing with Butler, but for Minnesota before. They need to get guys who actually want to be here. A KAT/Kyrie/Butler trio would immediately make them one of the better teams in the conference if they could make it happen. I've pretty much given up on Wiggins ever reaching his ceiling at this point, and they need to figure out a long-term deal with Butler or trade him before he walks in free agency. I'd be okay with them keeping him if they could land a third legit player and he could quit his feud with KAT.

The question is, would Boston actually go for a deal that netted them Wiggins as their main piece in exchange for Kyrie? Who knows, but it's worth exploring since Kyrie has already made his future in Boston uncertain and keeping Wiggins probably won't work out for MN anyway.

Yeah people thinking that the wolves need to build around Wiggins are lost imo.

Wiggins is the one that needs to go. But Danny isn’t taking Wiggins. I’m beating the horse to death but Paul George was there.

At least you're not a Wolves fan.

They've been actively finding ways to capture defeat in the face of victory since passing on Kobe in the draft back in 1996. All because they were "too afraid to draft two guys right out of high school for two years in a row" to pair Kobe with KG. Oddly enough, had they just hung onto Ray Allen after that draft instead of trading him for Stephon Marbury, it's entirely possible that they could have eventually gotten a title or two out of pairing Allen with KG as young stars in their primes.

*sigh* I really need to just leave this thread and quit reminding myself about all of this... :gaah:

So, I guess it would be piling on to mention Jonny Flynn? :heh:

I'm actually rooting for you guys to somehow become relevant again...
