IDK if it's state wide, but they say it's now law so I assume it is, but GA now requires any and all devices to be hands-free while driving.

I support the law, but I rarely talk on the phone in the car period, much less texting, etc. but I see it everyday, literally...no wonder our car insurance rates are going up, up, up.

What hands-free gizmos should I be looking at?

The Airpod is the only one I've researched so far.

Thoughts?

None. You'll survive just fine without.

I've gotten this close to 60 y/o so I suppose you're right, but for now they are cracking down...hands on phone you get pulled over...this was a holiday week so the cops were out in force anyway looking for DUI, but I have to imagine several were due to this new law.

Washington passed a distracted driving law last year. It's a secondary offense buy they can ticket you for doing anything other than driving, while driving. Meaning eating, brushing your hair, talking on the phone, etc. Bottom line is, it's not really worth it to text, talk or gps while driving. You'll be more distracted trying to get the damn gadget to work, then if you just picked up your phone itself.

Oh...I assumed other states were doing it.

Truth be told, I'm more concerned about my kids than me. I have a phone mount in the car and if I take a call, I hit speaker and if I need to make a call...I don't, at least not since July 1.

My daughter is always on the phone in the car...she's never admitted it, but we (wife and I) think she was texting (or otherwise distracted) while driving when she rear ended a car (totaled my wife's car) about 5 yrs ago. You would think at her age (29) now, she might not be on the phone in the car as much, but that's not the case. My son not so much.

Her birthday is coming up soon so I'd like to get her a Bluetooth something.

I got stuck with a company truck that didn't have Bluetooth so I bought a Jabra.

Yeah, WA has had that law for a couple of years and it hasn't done a damned thing. Easily 1 in 3 drivers still has a phone in their hand or leaves a huge gap and is looking down while driving.

I have a little blue tooth speaker that clips into my visor. When I get into the car I flick it on and my phone automatically connects. If I get a call, it tells me and I hit a little phone button on the front of it and it picks up. I can hit it again to hang up the call.

It cost me 25 bucks. There is no reason anyone who can afford a car and a cell phone can't get one.

It's illegal in Georgia to wear headphones in both of your ears. One ear is okay though. You can also still use your phone as a GPS too. This law is pretty much unenforceable unless you get caught completely red-handed because with most phones these days you can send texts through speech commands. I can say "hey Google, text ATL96Steeler 'I'll be there in 15 minutes'" without even touching my phone.

Thanks, IDNK about the headphones in both ears, but you see it lot.

GPS I was aware of...I think where people will get busted is stopped in traffic and force of habit will take over at the wrong time.

My boss is in his truck and on the phone constantly has been prepping for the law for quite some time send me this pic of what he uses with speakerphone and now has an ear bud with a mic.

I think this will be fine, so I'm buying these for the whole family as gifts...my wife's car has bluetooth connection already...this should be enough.

CA has had it for a while - the fine really doesn't matter compared to what your insurance carrier will do, when they find out.

You assume things sir.

Car insurance costs more than the fine.
