Thanks to Olshey doing nothing to build around Lillard, I hope the Blazers trade him to either LA or GS or wherever he can go to win and win big. Portland is wasting the guys prime years of his career. What does Portland need? Blazers need a solid SF and or PF. What do they do this off-season? Draft an inexperienced guard and then signs two guards....really? And they still kept CJ.

Lillard, CJ, Nurk and a solid 3 or 4 man could give the Blazers the pieces they need to make progress to the 2nd round of the postseason. Now, they did what they did and GS/LA did what they did. OKC did what they did, Utah has what they have, Spurs will do what they do and with that, Portland is done for while these super teams form out West.

To show respect for Lillard and all he has done for Portland, I would trade him to one of these contenders. Guy deserves it, and it won't happen in Portland. Portland needs their own trust the process and maybe in 6 years when all these super nova teams dissolve they'll be ready to make a deep run in the playoffs.

That's whack.

So any good player on a team that isn't destined to win a title 'deserves' to be traded to one that very well might? Like it's an obligation?

Right.

In respect to Lillard who is one of the better guards in the league and currently in his prime, yes, Portland should show the respect and trade him to a contender. He is being wasted in Portland right now. What is the point if you are not LA,GS,HOU in the West? No one besides those teams has a chance. Blazers have done nothing to build around an all-star guard.

My point is that Dame is happy here and willing to play the team that surrounds him. I see no "obligation" whatsoever to trade him. If he asks for a trade then maybe we can accommodate him.

Well that's it, I know he wants to be in Portland, likes it here, but at the end of the day he may see the writing on the wall that Portland isn't doing a damn thing to help him out. So either he can choose to be stuck in a small market team and get buried by the mega powers, and if he realizes that and he asks to be traded, I think Portland should trade him.

They can finally make some changes in about 2 years to balance the roster. If he's willing to stay that long, maybe they can right the ship...

Wasn't Dame one of the most outspoken player critics of KD when he went to GS?

Now, I know things change and there is always a possibility that he leaves on his own accord at some point, but Trading him to LA for what exactly?

Ball and Kuzma? You think that is good for the Blazers?

No.

What is best for the Blazers is keeping Lillard and doing what is needed to build around him. Portland hasn't done that.

No one EVER deserves to be traded somewhere just to win. These guys are more than adequately compensated to do what they do.

Aren't you a Blazer fan?

They signed a couple guys they shouldn't have signed and they are cap strung as a result. Hard to add pieces when you don't have space.

I totally agree with this.

But, the flip side is that fans shouldn't get mad at players when they choose to leave via free agency after fulfilling their contracts. Players deserve the right to pursue winning environments, preferred destinations or whatever else matters to them.

Fans are entitled to whatever feelings they want to have in my opinion. In the end they are paying the bills and choosing to invest their time in something. Their feelings don’t matter much in the end but I won’t ever begrudge a fan to feel however they want, that’s the definition of a fan in my book.

True.

But at the same time, teams try to make moves that are in their best interest. Trading players, releasing players, etc.. The team has the power most of the time.

It is crazy to me that fans begrudge players who leave and act like free agent players owe them something. Most organizations are far less loyal than the players.

We don't have space because our GM created us not having space.
Look at who that dude signed and gave huge contracts to.
