There's a bunch of front offices that need their asses kicked, let them catch their breath, and then kicked again. That's my thoughts

Agreed.

This was a reactionary move from Cousins because he was getting no love from anybody. This will teach em.

I bet anything if there is a star coming off a major injury like this, teams won't be so dismissive next year.

Should be an 'other' choice because I don't feel any of the 3 choices.
I'm not upset about it though.
Rules are rules.
When is the next CBA coming up?
Owners and players should have plenty to talk about.

I don't care, nor do I buy into, these "good/bad for the league" stuff. Who cares since all teams have the option to do that.

I think it is bad for the Warriors. Too many cooks in the kitchen, but it's a one year deal for low money so the downside is minimal. But I don't think this adds to their team.

How can acquiring arguably the most talented C in the league not be adding?
He’s a legit max player basically donating his services for 1 year.

Great move for Cousins and the Warriors. No pressure and plenty of time to adjust. Just like last year, we already know who will win the NBA championship.

But just last year Isaiah Thomas was coming off an injury and he came back terrible and not worth what he would've been paid had he been a free agent.

It would be cool if this lead to more of the same. When good players are coming off an injury, they sign 1 year deals with a team so they can prove their worth. Low risk for everyone involved. Cousins will be getting a huge contract next year. He'll also have a ring.

True.

But there is a big difference between offering a big long term deal and a short term one.

It would have been reckless to pay Cousins a full max deal. But 20-25 million for 1 year? Teams should have been jumping on that. If he isn't right, young move on. If you don't like his impact in the locker room, you move on. But you get the opportunity to add an all NBA talent at a steep discount on a short deal. I think there are a lot of teams around the league regretting their decision in not kicking the tires on Boogie.

I was already disinterested knowing Kawhi was leaving. Now that this happened, I have zero interest in the league this year. No reason to even play. Once he's healthy, it's over.

Here I come, tater salad.

It's not a big deal since no one cares about the games anymore. Basketball is all about the drama of who's going where during the off season. We all know what's going to happen once the season starts

He hasn't helped his teams win anything of note to date, and that was when fully healthy. Achilles injuries affect your play even beyond the supposed recovery period, just ask Kobe and Wes Matthews.

I totally agree.

You sign him to a 1 year deal. You learn about him personality wise. You learn more about his injury than anyone else. You learn how he fits in and whether he is a good investment long term. It is almost an ideal situation when you consider Boogie's history to have a 1 year trying out period to learn more about the guy and if he would be a fit.

Plus, he should be back and have been playing for at least a couple months by the time the playoffs start. He could and should be a major factor in the playoffs.

The Lakers could EASILY have done a sign and trade of Randle for him, paid Cousins like 15M this year, and then learned everything about him to determine if they wanted to keep him for the long term. Instead they got KCP and Stephenson.

Subtraction by addition. Him and Rondo will get into a melee in the WCF and benches will clear. Durant will start swinging and get ejected with a 3 game suspension. LBJ will get through the finals and lose to a driving dunk in game 7 by Tatum.

Also, how do you do potato salad american style

That's what is missing, a true rival. I really wished Kawhi went to the Lakers with LeBron and PG. Maybe next year Kawhi goes there.

A true rival should be in the East, not another team in the West. That is a much more compelling story.

Cavs vs Warriors was a great story. Then the Warriors got KD and it became less of a story because we all knew how it would end.

The Warriors need a rival in the East, which doesn't seem very likely at this point.

Sure it would be ideal in the East but a rival is a rival. The Bulls and Knicks had a good one. Celtics and Sixers before that. Lakers and Spurs...

The Rockets were a true rival last year. If they keep Capela and get some smart pieces they will be a very tough out again next year.

But that just isn't as compelling a story as facing a rival in the finals. IMO, that is toughest thing the NBA is dealing with right now. Lebron going west has weakened the East considerably and unless the Sixers or Celtics step up significantly next year, casual fans are going to lose interest.
