I watched Veronica over the weekend. Not really too scary. I stayed into it the whole time, so I guess it was pretty good.

I enjoyed it. Far from the "scariest movie ever" which was being thrown around, one scene stood out to me as the scariest/creepiest. Still an enjoyable film.

That movie has been on my Netflix list ever since it came out... Hopefully I can get around to watching it soon.

Unless you speak Spanish, you have to read subtitles. That is part of the reason I would rate it as good. My daughters and I still watched the whole thing and enjoyed it. I was a little bummed out about how it was claimed to be based off of a true story, but it wasn't even close.

Thanks for the heads up. I usually avoid subtitled movies, but I've recently started to come around to them. Train To Busan got too many good recommendations for me to ignore it any longer. I was glad I finally watched it.

Being one of those who recommended Train to Busan, it is ironic that I started watching Veronica only to be turned off by the subtitles.:crazy::crazy:

Well I assume most standard horror films have more dialogue than a survival z-flick would. So you still have to be somewhat "picky" about subtitled films. General rule of thumb, the more action the better.

I thought so too. You know everything that is going to happen but still a decent enough film.

Finally got around to watching A Quiet Place, solid solid movie. Very clever, pretty original. A great twist on dystopian, society has crumbled horror.
Really enjoyed A Quiet Space. The Sound and creature design in this movie was remarkable. More of a thriller/horror type of film. Didn’t watch a single trailer before watching it and it was massively intense from the 1st scene all the way to the end. With so little dialogue, you have to have great actors to carry that kind of story through imagery and they all did a great job with that. Heck of a directing and acting performance from John on this one. Especially given he’s known mostly for his comedy background.

The Rake (2018)

Doesn't hit theaters until June 5th, but I caught a HD leak of this film online last night. Wasn't very impressed with this creature feature. It starts off really well with a horrifying intro to the creature, and sets the background. But after the time-jump to the future (some 15 years later) things got lost in translation. First off, if you didn't catch the names of the 2 kids in the intro (Ben & Ashley) then you'll find yourself guessing as to which characters are which when they are grown up. I had to rewind to figure it out lol. They introduce a 3rd sibling (or close relative?) after the time jump that hadn't been seen before and it confused me whether she was supposed to be Ashley or not. Makes me wonder if the leak I watched was an unfinished product. Anyways, after the time-jump the film turned into a drama with zero scare factor or suspense, up until the climax. Essentially you get 5 mins of good horror, follow up by 40 mins or so of drama, then a 10-20-min climax of decent horror. The drama focuses on family tension and you are supposed to guess as to which characters are being afflicted or possessed by the Rake. But it was so boring that I lost interest in the plot itself. Didn't help that it had a very odd cast with subpar acting skills. I got the feeling that had more to do with a bad script & bad writing though. The climax was pretty cool once the creature killings started. The cinematics were good. I liked the filming styles & the score was good. But overall it was a dull experience filled with lows & too few highs... Wouldn't recommend.

Dull creature feature that focuses too much on badly written drama... 5/10

Hush.....in a thread like this it's never a bad idea to repeat upcoming movies.....
Truth. To be honest it was a good reminder because I had forgotten about it already.
