douggie, I agree with you that Duke's success will not go away once Coach K retires but I don't think they will be on quite as high a level as they have been with Coach K which is normal for any program that loses a hall of fame coach. I guess all of this remains to be seen.

After several bad hires by NC State I certainly hope that Keatts is our man but after over a quarter of a century of heartbreak it's hard to get too excited yet. What memories Reynolds brings back to me because as a kid I even sold popcorn walking up and down those concrete steps pausing many times to hear the roar of the crowd when my Wolfpack would score. As I got older I was even there to watch David Thompson score his number #44 against Maryland in what is arguably with best championship game in ACC Tournament history.

I'm just curious, are you all Duke basketball or do you also get into Blue Devils football? I think you have a great head coach in football who overachieves in recruiting the best possible high school talent he has to select from with the academics level being so high at Duke. As a lifelong Redskins fan I love Crowder who came out of Duke.

@tomcat1 I realize a new hire won't be Coach K. Nobody will. What I'm saying is K will most certainly have a hand in hiring a replacement and the chaos that followed running off Jimmy V or firing Bobby Knight, etc, won't happen at Duke, IMHO.

Wow, my biggest memory I remember was David Thompson wearing a head wrap after taking a tumble over Spence's back blocking a shot with that signature vertical leap against Pitt in the region finals.

If that happened today he couldn't have returned due to concussion protocol and would have missed the Ucla game. Saw his HS jersey that was retired at Shelby Crest High School's gym.

And yes I have season tix at Wallace Wade. Cut has been a shot in the arm to the perpetual demoralized efforts of football before him. It's exciting to see a game on Saturday afternoon when the Blue Devils actually have a chance. Doeren is a good coach and Carter-Finley is a whole lot different than those concrete seats and red mud fair grounds I remember as a kid. Good memories though.

Yep, grew up a Redskins fan too as Sonny Jurgensen was my man!

douggie, I totally agree with you that the new Duke hire after Coach K will be handled with class and Coach K will play a huge part in naming his replacement.

Thanks for sharing the video on David Thompson's fall which I still remember like it happened yesterday. I still don't know how they got him to Rex Hospital, bandaged his head, and got him back to enter the game again before the game was over. Yes, Shelby's Crest High School has a legend who played for them and even though Thompson was a great NBA player we will never know how great he could have been if he had kept himself clean during his NBA days. The good thing is that he turned his life around to become a quality citizen today.

Yes, Coach Cut seems to be very happy at Duke and obviously Duke is very happy with him. I won't bore you very long with this story but as a kid I had no money to buy a ticket to see NC State play a football game at the old Riddick Stadium on campus so a buddy and I would climb over the wall among the pine trees at one end of the stadium to see the game. Since there were no seats available we would stand behind the NC State bench to watch the entire game. During one particular game Roman Gabriel, the NC State QB ran wide on a 3rd and long and as a Wake Forest safety tackled him as he was going out of bounds they both knocked me into next week and I still don't know if Gabe picked up that 1st down because the lights went out for me. Yes, Sonny Jurgensen was my all time favorite QB to watch and cheer for and I've got many Jurgy stories to share with you since he spoke many times at our Raleigh Sports Club meetings one of these days.

douggie, Thanks for the rating you gave me on my last post to you.

HECK, I haven't been here long enough to know what these ratings are all about and since I'm not too good with a computer to begin with I don't even know how to put up an avatar yet. I guess I'll learn all of this in time but I do enjoy communicating with you and thanks for taking the time to read all of my blabber.

That's cool as all the ratings will come with time. I hang out here most of the time on the general forum and here on the CBB forum. This place is pretty dead until Fall and CBB practice begins. I hope you hang around as we don't have a Wolfpack poster that I know of here regularly.

douggie, I can certainly understand why you don't have any regular red & white posters here after over a quarter of a century of heartbreak in basketball although our football program keeps getting better and better if there was not a word called Clemson in our way.

I look forward to chatting with you as time goes on and have yourself a great night.

Here ya go!

Man you're on top of it when it comes to the ACC! I saw that Dorn was coming back for his senior year on wral.com today but thanks for keeping me informed.

The ongoing problem still remains for my Wolfies though with Coach K and Ole Roy getting the top high school recruits and we get the leftovers. I'm use to leftovers however because every time I grill something out on my deck at night I have leftovers the next night. Have a great night!

Deadline is tomorrow for staying in the draft. Here are the remaining ACC decisions that I know about:

Ky Bowman- Boston College: (working out with Hawks today)
Bryant Crawford- Wake Forest: have read he's probably gone.
Shelton Mitchell and Marcquise Reed- Clemson: have read they're probably going overseas.
Tyus Battle- Syracuse: have read he's likely gone but maybe @jonvi knows more

A roster exodus from a team that lost 20 games may not be the worst thing in the world.

You may be right on that. Crawford is a talent, but I did at times question his decision making. Running everything through Brown might be a good thing anyways.

As a SU fan...good to read. Returning all five from last years starters is great. And Battle lead the way. He can graduate as a Junior so that probably played into the decision.

But....

I think the kids a stud and should have gone. He's a solid 2nd round pick and would learned more about the game at the next level had he gone pro this year.

Crawford was annoying to watch, because he would hold on to the ball too long, only played defense when he wanted to and he would become a TO machine at times.

Believe it or not, I'm actually looking forward to watching Wake play next year. I think they are a talented bunch, just very young. Childress, Hoard, Brown, Mucius, Sarr and Lewis make up a talented group that should be around for at least 2 more seasons.

They should definitely be picked #14 or #15 next year in the conference, because there really isn't a proven commodity on the squad. However, I think they have the potential to be a surprise team.(or they can be dogshit again, and if that happens DM should be shown the door)

Syracuse is a definite Top 10-15 preseason pick now

With the limitied number of players SU used last year, it's hard to say how they will come together when we add in 3 more to the mix that should be very good ball players. SU should have 10 quality players next year, but we all know JB doesn't go that deep.

SU still lags behind Duke, UNC, VA and probably VTech and FSU. I think they are expected to finish around 5 in the ACC.

SU gets tOSU in the ACC/Big10 matchup. Also OCC is Buffalo...who booted AZ last year in the second round of the dance. Buffalo returns the majority of their scoring from last year. This is a very dangerous mid major.

All of that said....I haven't seen SU look this good in a long time. JB has a chance to go out with a bang. The tough schedule SU has gives them a shot at a very high seed in the dance.

And I expect the ACC to have another great year overall. Gonna be good.

4* Saddiq Bey requested out of his LOI due to impending NCAA issues. He was once a major Miami lean, but once the FBI stuff came out, he told Miami he had no interest in signing with a team that had a dark cloud hanging over them. He commits to NCSU, then it comes out that NCSU is in deeper shit than they initially led on, so Bey requests out of his LOI. It is granted and NCSU places no restrictions on where Bey can go.

He was reportedly down to Wake, BC and Vandy. However, from the sounds of it, it sounds like the ACC is going to force him to sit out a year if he signs with an ACC team, since he did sign a LOI with NCSU. God, fuck the ACC.
