Change of ADs, change of coaches and change of attitude. They don't care, they just want to add cash to the coffers and don't care about being competitive, other than lip service.

Illinois hired Josh Whitman as AD just over 2 years ago. Illinois athletics at the time were dealing with abuse allegations(disciplinary type) in 2 sports, women's basketball and football. Recruiting fell off the table the last 2-3 years before Whitman showed up. Illinois is at best an Iowa level school for football with a good team every 5-6 years historically. I look for them to return to that model fairly soon. Lovie isn't doing a bad job considering where they were.

Men's basketball is a different story. When Bill Self left back in the early 2000s, and Bruce Weber took over, Weber poisoned the in-state recruiting by alienating the high school and AAU coaches. A couple bad hires after that haven't helped much. Brad Underwood has had one season so far. Got nothing to say about him for a couple more years.

Yeah, I am a Wisconsin fan, but I live just outside Urbana, so all my local sports news is about Illinois.

Rutgers, I have no idea. They're just in a bad spot. NJ has become a pipeline state for Alabama, OSU, and michigan, which sucks because they routinely have top end talent.

It's worse than that.....the NJ pipelines for Penn State and Notre Dame are strong..... check out this link, and play around with various years from the pull-down menu.

The new Illinois facilities will be finished for the 2019 season, and should help them on the recruiting trail.

Join the I FUND - Illinois Office of Athletic Development

However, keep in mind almost everybody else in the B1G has or is finishing new facilities.
- Minnesota's and Northwestern's and Indiana's new facilities will be ready for this season.
- Purdue's and Maryland's new facilities just opened for the 2017 season.
- Iowa's new facility opened a couple years ago.
- Wisconsin's new facilities opened approx. 5 years ago.
- Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Nebraska are constantly upgrading.

Purdue just opened new facilities? I thought their facilities was a concentration camp. That’s what Harbaugh led us to believe.

Meanwhile in Nebraska:

image of a red balloon

Latex Balloons are NOT "Biodegradable" - Balloons Blow

Meanwhile, the Auto Industry

A car has over 330 pounds of plastic in it. Bigger cars have more, but we will use the smaller number.

Let's go wild and say a balloon wieghs 5 grams.(BTW, this is a HEAVY balloon)

20,000 balloons are released.

20000 * 5 = 100,000 grams.

One pound = 454 grams.

100000/454 = 220 pounds.

Automotive

Detroit is making 16,000,000 cars per year

16000000 * 330 = 528,000,000,000 pounds of plastic each year

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

What is the Great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch?

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is filled with plastic.

So Nebraska fans plop 220 pounds of garbage per home game, let's call it an even 1600 pounds of plastic pollution caused by Nebraska fans per year.

Detroit 528,000,000,000 pounds to Nebraska 1600 pounds.

Which is worse?

Sure, balloons are bad and are not really bio-degrable, but I have a funny feeling that the Detroit Auto industry does quite a bit more polluting than a Nebraska balloon.

If you add in the tires, the exhaust, the chemicals used in the paints, the leaky liquids that come out of cars, there is probably a tad more bit of a problem.

But, yeah, let's blame a balloon.

I don't know. How many NON-FLOATING cars get dumped in rivers, lakes, and the oceans?

From river cleanups

Our Stories - Nearly 400 Tires Pulled From Rivers during 2016 Employee River Cleanup | Keurig Green Mountain, Inc.

372 tires
Car axles

http://livinglandsandwaters.org/about-us/stats/

Since 1998, 9,800,000 pounds from rivers

84,997 tires
17.5 cars
18 car engines

No mention of balloon pieces.

Where do all those tires come from? Cars, trucks, motorcycles. If 17.5 cars = 5500 pounds of plastic which is equal to 25 years of balloons.

That is just from known cleanups.

So what you are saying is the giant island of trash in the ocean contains no cars and that sea turtles aren’t choking to death on them like they are with balloons that self absorbed people who care nothing for the environment let go free.

Why any HS QB recruit would want to go to Michigan right now is beyond me, Hairball has proven when push comes to shove he will just shuttle in the grad transfers.

Always great to see a meeeechegan fan living vicariously through another program. Here are some friendly reminders for you: 2,391 since meeeechegan beat Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 15-3 this century & on a 6 game winning streak. And last year Jimmy Jam's Crew went 0-5 vs. teams that finished the regular season above .500.
