Yes it was a record. We never put much stock in the spring game but Riley trying to create a vibe for it, good start.

Similar with Georgia. Never was much of an emphasis in the spring game under Richt, it normally drew around 50k, but Kirby put out the statement that he wants a packed house for the Spring Game and the fan base responded.

Riley did something similar but let’s be honest. Much of Oklahoma’s fan base are whiny and spoiled who just want to be fed. They expect national championship caliber performance from all aspects of the football program but give conference championship caliber performance themselves.

Problem is, it usually doesn’t change all that much when he goes against good teams out of conference. How many records have been set against Oklahoma’s defense since Mike came back? Multiple. There’s no excuse for that.

I didn’t think there was too many absolute outbursts by opposing offense OOC but you are correct. Your D (along with many others in this conference) struggle against top teams OOC.

Three things.

1) Venebles has much better players to work with than he did while at Oklahoma. And to some extent, you’re right that he doesn’t face as many competent offenses, but that’s less important all things considered.

This goes to my point that Venables didn't become a genius overnight. I agree.

2) Mike has never been good on his own.

You might have a point. He also hasn't had the talent the other top teams have had.

3) Mike is responsible for the shitty defensive recruiting since he came back. Thank God riley is fixing that.

Yes. He and Bob have recruited like shit for 5-6 years. The underclassmen starting prove that to be true.
I agree Riley is better than both Stoops in recruiting.

To be fair, there are a ton Of good offenses in the B12 and facing them each week does take its toll. Oklahoma certainly isn’t the only team in the B12 with a pathetic defense.
Sometimes it seems nearly impossible to find a team that DOESN'T have a pathetic defense. Defense is supposed to be Patterson's strength and they turn to shit sometimes. Rhule is supposed to be a defense guy so we'll have to give him some time.

Don't know about "competent" per se but there is some proof in your point. Doesn't Syracuse have a Big 12 type offense?

They line up that wy but the results are a bit different.

They averaged 25 a game vs ACC competition.

3 games were under 20 points
4 other games under 28 points
1 game where they scored 43 but lost by 21 to Wake Forest.

Their defense resembles the Big12 but not their offense

FSU had its largest crowd ever for a spring game...over 54K. And they charged 10 bucks to get
in.

More of the past has returned though. They never took to Fisher. Brooks was there. Deion.
Dalvin Cook. Must have been 30 former greats on the sidelines and Bobby was there. Taggert
also had Bobby speak to the team before a practice. Fisher never did anything like that but as
I've mentioned before, folks never took to Fisher. The "program" is better off with him gone.

Alabama's game is next week.

Saban is so detailed oriented even the spring game is a week after everyone else to simulate the post season.

:pigglywiggly:

This is both funny and salty...carry on.

Loading up on WRs, nice. We still landed the top in state WR per 247, but you guys have 3 so far from Texas.
It obviously a deep field every year in the state of Texas, but it seems like the last 3 years Texas has been absolutely loaded at the WR position. So many good players that can come in and contribute early.

Yes, it is nice that the in state talent matches big 12 play so well. That's why a&m has started the false narrative that Texas kids are too soft for SEC play.

Can we be honest and agree with that winning the Big 12 three years in a row isn't that huge of an accomplishment? It would have been a huge upset if they hadn't won and have zero excuse if they don't win next year.

Guess there’s no way Auburn could have competed for the Big 12 title during that timeframe then huh? Considering how you got dumptrucked by OU right in the middle of that campaign?
