Legit Oklahoma post, I seen nothing about Defense.

Riley seems determined to change that. We did pull down a couple legit defensive commits. A safety and a big D lineman.

You're going to need them in order to win a playoff game. Hard to think your offense is going to get any better than it was last year.

He’s in his last year of his contract. He’s gone after this year.

Defensive recruiting has picked up significantly the last two cycles. Still gotta get rid of Moops though.

52,000 is a spring game record for Oklahoma?

That sounds a little underwhelming. Georgia had 93k last year.

The Buckeyes have some construction going on so they were only able to distribute about 79k tickets.

Alabama's game is next week.

Saban is so detailed oriented even the spring game is a week after everyone else to simulate the post season.

Yes it was a record. We never put much stock in the spring game but Riley trying to create a vibe for it, good start.

Let’s be honest, Bob Stops has dragged ass on recruiting for years. He didn’t like it, and he certainly didn’t want to do what it takes to do so at an elite level the last few years of his career. That’s when Oklahoma started to slip below the truly elite line. Thank goodness he realized he didn’t have the juice to turn it back up and turned over to Riley who seems to embrace everything about it and has his hand in everything in the program. Bob ran it like a CEO the last few years.

Everyone said Venables sucked too until he didn't have to face Big 12 offenses every week.

Mike sucks no matter what he faces anymore. He’s lost in his own head and the game has passed him by. Add stubborn to that and you’ve got a nightmare. He’s proven this on many occasions including in the rose bowl. If he had even an average defense we would’ve been playing bama for the title. Fortunately, from the sounds of it Riley is taking measures to minimize his incompetence.

You might be right. I just think it's strange that Mike was a genius the first stint and now is a moron. Venables was a moron but now is a genius.
The talent level at OU has been pathetic compared to the teams are are being asked to compete with. (Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St., Clemson) I don't care what a high school kids star rating is look at the number of NFL players from all 5 of these schools and see who is out of place.

To be fair, there are a ton Of good offenses in the B12 and facing them each week does take its toll. Oklahoma certainly isn’t the only team in the B12 with a pathetic defense.

Problem is, it usually doesn’t change all that much when he goes against good teams out of conference. How many records have been set against Oklahoma’s defense since Mike came back? Multiple. There’s no excuse for that.

Three things.

1) Venebles has much better players to work with than he did while at Oklahoma. And to some extent, you’re right that he doesn’t face as many competent offenses, but that’s less important all things considered.

2) Mike has never been good on his own.

3) Mike is responsible for the shitty defensive recruiting since he came back. Thank God riley is fixing that.
