Anybody have any experience cooking on one of these things??
It looks delicious and I'm about to talk myself into building one.
Was wondering if you guys had tried this or had a friend or relative that did it.
Give me any input you have.

Here is what I'm talking about. There are plenty of these on youtube.

Awesome...and a smokie infused flavor too. EVERY house should have one, a pizza I mean.

Good stuff...I have boughten a wood fired pizza, but I like that idea, looks fairly easy to build too.

If you build that thing, prepare to have friends come out of the woodwork you never knew you had. That would be ALLOT of fun.

That would be awesome.

But for us who aren't that motivated to build one buy a nice big wood pizza spatula and put it on the grill on a grill stone that you let get super hot. Or if it is too cold outside put it on the bottom of your oven, no smoke flavor but still does a good crust.

I'm sure it would be awesome.

But eating pizza all the time will make you gain lots of weight. About 2 years ago I got on this homemade pizza kick - and the pizza's were fucking awesome even without such a stove. Made lots of it from scratch, including the dough and sauce, only buying the other toppings etc.

I had to stop because I started gaining weight like crazy. :(

Best pizza is cookied in a wood fired oven. If you are going to build one, may as well get a wood oven thermometer that takes the temp of the surface stone. Makes a huge difference when its cooked on the correct temp underneath.

This one looks too easy.
My concern would be it cracking.

The key with an oven like that is controlling the temp, It's literally an art. However, once you learn how your oven works and the hotter/colder spots, you will be able to make AMAZING food!!!(not just pizza)

We have a local place called 900 Degree Pizza. They claim to cook everything in a 900 degree wood burning oven. The oven is open for everyone to watch food go in and come out.

The food is incredible. Especially the Vesuvius Pizza.......Hot Italian Sausage, Hot Pepperoni and Jalapenos.

I am planning to build a rear deck this fall and was considering pouring the foundation and fabricating a smoker/wood oven. I have the metal and electrical skills for this and my neighbor can do the brick work. Just not sure it is worth it.

Depends on a few things.

1. How often would you use it?
2. How much would it cost initially?
3. How much would it cost to maintain over time?
4. Basically, is it worth the deck space/cost ratio?

1. Practically daily. During the late spring or early summer I will start cooking daily by grill/smoker and Dutch ovens.
2. I am not sure, but I do have a lot of the materials in hand and the rest of my life. Depending on how elaborate I want to get but I am sure that I could pull it off for less than $500 and probably about $300.
3. IMHO that is a negligible expense.
4. That is the question. Space will not be the issue but time/effort is. I haven't made up my mind yet.
