Yet he's being retained to work on Trump's re-election campaign for 2020...

What I was saying is that it's not a great idea politically to appoint someone as the chief liaison with your allies that they will inherently distrust. Or that openly mocks a majority of them.
I mean, did a lot of people trust HRC? I think John Kerry was pretty well respected but Clinton pissed people off so much that a world power funded a disinformation campaign to make sure she wouldn't become president lol

Tillerson and Trump clearly weren't on the same page (just a day before Trump agreed to meet with Rocket Man Tillerson said the conditions at the moment weren't right for talks). I think as long as what the SOS is selling is the same garbage the current administration is it doesn't really matter who's in the job.

I mean, the CIA hasn't totally imploded on itself yet so Pompeo must've been doing something right.

I don't know if it was complete trust in Hillary globally, but I think that foreign governments knew she had the connections and experience to at least not run into a room with a flamethrower blasting. Cautious respect, perhaps. Like you said, they believed she'd follow what Obama said and they liked him, and they likely believed that what they said to her would get faithfully brought back to the pres. A lot was probably affected to the respect they had for her husband also, I'd wager.

I don;t think they expected much from Tillerson, and they will likely not expect anything of Pompeo. But you would imagine they'd rather deal with Tillerson than Trump or Pompeo going forward. Tillerson was incompetent, but he at least tried to learn the job.

A Russian exile who was close friends with the late oligarch Boris Berezovsky has been found dead in his London home, according to friends.

Nikolai Glushkov was discovered by his family and friends late on Monday night, aged 68. The cause of death is not yet clear. One of his friends, the newspaper editor Damian Kudryavtsev, posted the news on his Facebook page.

Without confirming the man’s name, the Metropolitan police said the counter-terrorism command unit was leading the investigation into the death “as a precaution because of associations that the man is believed to have had”.

It said there was no evidence at present to suggest a link to the incident in Salisbury, where Sergei and Yulia Skripal remain in a critical condition.

“An investigation is under way following the death of a man in his 60s in Kingston borough,” the said police, who were called by the London ambulance service at 10.46pm to reports of a man found dead at a residential address in New Malden.

In the 1990s, Glushkov worked for the state airline Aeroflot and Berezovsky’s LogoVAZ car company. In 1999, as Berezovsky fell out with Vladimir Putin and fled to the UK, Glushkov was charged with money-laundering and fraud. He spent five years in jail and was freed in 2004.

Ya gotta love The Onion:

WASHINGTON—In an effort to make the frequent festivities for departing staffers more efficient, White House officials announced Tuesday that the administration is now just holding one continuous going-away party.

“Instead of throwing a send-off celebration for Rob Porter and Rick Dearborn only to turn around and do it again a week later, we will now simply hold around-the-clock gatherings with light refreshments and cupcakes to honor whoever left the administration most recently,” said Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, adding that employees may now join their coworkers at any time of day in the permanently decorated White House kitchen where a never-ending stream of staffers will announce that this is their last day, perpetually deliver farewell speeches, and constantly pass around and sign goodbye cards for continuously departing coworkers.

“In order to avoid another situation like when we had three separate get-togethers in one week for Sean Spicer, Michael Short, and Reince Priebus, aides may now enjoy a cup of soda, don a party hat, reminisce over fond memories together, and say their farewells whenever it is convenient for them.” Huckabee-Sanders added that she looks forward to seeing everyone in the kitchen, where she expects to be honored shortly.
