That is what the NFL is about. Knowing when to move on from aging stars. Elway at this point has done it right. What did TJ Ward do last year? The team missed him in the locker room and maybe a little bit on the field. Tampa Bay didn't get what they thought they would get out of him. If Talib goes to LA and has a down year Elway looks like a genius. If Talib goes to LA and plays at a Pro Bowl level for 2 or 3 years Elway looks like an idiot. I am ok with Talib moving on. I agree with DC the Defense needs to get an enforcer, but maybe we can get something at MLB to be that guy.
To me it doesn’t matter what players do when they move on, it’s what they do here. Our D took a step back without Ward. Our D took a step back without Wade Phillips. Talib was playing elite level. Two years ago he was our defensive MVP.

A unilateral move at best. The same QB he better have some wheels because he is now going to use the F### out of them.

Sure is allot of negative people on here. Keenum was probably the best choice outside of Cousins. Do you really think a rookie QB was going to do better than Keenum? Keenum is young enough that drafting a QB isn't totally necessary. The Broncos haven't exactly been on fire in their drafted QB's.
Keenum had a decent year on one of the elite NFL teams. Prior to that he pretty much sucked and was a journeyman qb. He’s 30. Maybe he’s lightning in a bottle, I’ll go with the odds though

Would you rather hold on to these guys until they are under performing? I don't like some of these guys leaving, but at the same time I understand.

You guys well like Case.

As a Viking fan, I didn't view him as franchise QB, obviously MN didn't either, but he's a great leader and I wish him the best. He's good a QB and worthy of being starter, he's just not "elite"

Well that depends. Are we rebuilding? If so throwing almost 20 mm at a career journeyman qb makes zero sense. Our D used to be elite. It’s no longer. We now have questions front to back. We are going to draft a qb, that is certain. Our money should be utilized to build a proper team around him

Exactly. Good for a 2 year contract. Not a long term solution, IMO but in today's era where it is hard to find a quality starting QB, I don't mind spending some money on him while not locking him in long term and look at young options to develop.

If you hold on to stars when they no longer play up to their contract you end up being a bad team. New England is the best at knowing when to move on from players. Sometimes they move on too soon.

If the Broncos do not make changes then they would be right back where they were last year. When you make changes sometimes players leave that are hard to let go. Tough choices need to be made.

I love how Crash thinks because the all mighty Elway drafted Siemian and Paxton Lynch that he can make them great… Does he fail to realize that Elway is the one making this move? If he is so great at QB decisions then you shouldn’t worry… It means he has evaluated Keenum and feels he can help more than Lynch of Siemian (but Geo’s wife could have told you this) So sit back if you have confidence in Elway’s QB decisions and relax. You complain because people have given up on Elway’s QB decision yet it appears he has done the same. If you’re that confident in him and his ability to sign/draft develop QB’s then move on from what he wasn’t able to do with the garbage we have on the roster right now at QB.

For the rest of us. I think we are all wondering if he knows what he is doing at QB period. But you gotta change something if what you have isn’t working.

I still look for us to go QB early as our long term solution, but for now… I feel we have upgraded at least.

Denver is going have to turn over this roster by 2020. I hope Denver has a rookie QB in mind because it makes everything else easy to process with a QB. I'm hoping Denver has targeted 1 or 2 they really like and decided to go the bridge QB this year.

Orton, Siemian, Keenum. Sounds par for the course. Our front office loves absurdly average QBs.

Count me as officially on the Jake Browning train.

Elite QB's dont fall off the apple tree.

Jake Browning? Really?

I think people will understand this move much better when we draft a QB too.

I’m not impressed w Keenum but there’s no denying he’s an upgrade over what we’ve had the past couple years. Can we get out of him what the Vikings did? That’s definitely a fair question right now. It also makes me wonder if Chad Kelly is the end game. Keenum plugs the hole for a year maybe two and we give Kelly a chance at that point?

What are the chances he reverts to the Keenum that played for the Rams?

I think everyone is underestimating just how much life Jeff Fisher sucked out of his QB's toward the end of his tenure.

This is a good post.

I'm not sure the plan is for Kelly to be the future or not, but if we like what we see maybe and if not a QB will be drafted.

Keenum is a temp solution to the QB issue. People may have a problem with the money he gets but keep in mind that is the type of money a QB demands. It's a two year deal we aren't locking him in to save the franchise. He's an upgrade to what we currently have. It's just a piece of us moving forward and getting better. It's a safety net so we aren't stuck not being able to compete next year and at the same time our long term solution may not be on our roster right now. It gives us options. It makes it so we don't have to draft another project in Paxton Lynch but gives us the ability to still draft a QB we REALLY like if he is there. As much as I love Chad Kelly I doubt we are banking on him being the future, but he is a bonus if he plays up the the level he is capable of (like his JR year at Ole Miss) that is just a big time question mark right now and very low risk with high upside when we took him with the final pick last year.

I think this is a rational move for both the salary cap and for being competitive. If the Broncos successfully spend money left over on the Oline - and improve that performance - slightly above average QBs can look like good QBs.

I don't think the Broncos draft a top QB at 5 now - with Lynch and Kelly - they have 3 QBs for next year.
