Left my old phone at work and course it got stolen. I'm actual not that upset, been lusting after a newer phone. So went from a note 2 to a note 8. Lots of things have changed. Took me a few minutes just to find how to get to settings for Gods sake.

Anyone else have one of these? If so you can probably give me some tips on using this phone.

I like it. Was my go to browser for a long time.

No experience with the Note 8 though. I would imagine it would take quite a bit of getting used to from the Note 2.

Oh hell yes. This phone is taller and bigger I guess, but the note 2 was wider which I liked. This one will work with all the apps, the note 2 won’t with some which was annoying. Everything is different as far as navigating with different features and that’s annoying, but I’m sure once I get use to it, that won’t be a problem.
Wireless charger which is nice. Going get rid of anything I won’t use...as soon as I figure out what I won’t use

Got to say that note 2 just refuse to die, having it stolen was probably the only way I was going to spring for a new phone and I was hankering for a newer model. Now to deal with everything being totally different.

Pretty cool you had it that long. I take either not getting security updates, or the OS being so out of date that it limits apps I can use as a good of reason as any to upgrade. As I’ve said in other threads, I’ve only been able to keep one phone long enough for that rule to kick in anyway.

Congrats on the new device. From what I’ve read the current note seems pretty great.

Ok just realized that since it water resistant the body is sealed so no replacing the battery. A big Booo for that, but just watched a ytube video showing that you actually can, but big pain in the ass.

You’re not getting around that anymore if you want the top of the line “flagships” from the big brands. I think you can send it into Samsung and have them do it for you for around $80. I know @WizardHawk has advocated just ordering one of the kits and doing it yourself, but I’d personally be more comfortable paying the $40 difference to have them do it. You’ll also void any warranties associated with the sealed waterproof design if you rip it apart yourself.

Going to try to baby this battery. No putting it on the dock on Friday then take it off Monday because I didn't go anywhere. Over charging leads to killing the battery.

I might be willing to pay the extra, IDK. I find I like doing these kind of things myself and take the conquest if I fail. Usually do fine, but for only 40 dollars maybe not. Think the amount of time you got to wait for your phone would be the deciding factor

Yeah, if you don’t have a backup and it’s take a couple weeks that’d definitely be a consideration.

It's not that I 'advocate' doing it yourself, I simply provide it as an option to those who otherwise feel they have a choice of getting rid of older devices they don't know they can otherwise work on themselves, or maybe they don't have a trust of the repair facilities.

Either way, yes there's a way for pretty much any smart phone to have a battery placement by the end user.

In the case of the Note 8, it doesn't have seals that have to be replaced so it's an easier job than most of the iPhones.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Battery Replacement

It really isn't that hard if you buy the cheap tools and follow the pictures.

And for the record, I purchased the new S9, but it hasn't been delivered yet. Didn't go for the plus or the larger phones. I can't see lugging those around.

Phone fit nicely into the inside coat pocket.

You know I'm in IT and find myself crawling under desks and climbing up in ceilings and carrying around what amounts to a phablet just wouldn't work for me at all. A phone has to easily fit in a shirt or pants pocket. I have coworkers that have the Note and I've checked out its size and would just get frustrated by it. But even the s9+ is just too big. I can't say I often find myself in need of something that large. What I use a phone for works well in the smaller form factor sizes.
