I'm just sitting here in my office, watching some fishing videos on YouTube and I'm just super excited to get back out fishing this year. I've mentioned before, but I subscribe to Mystery Tackle Box and have about 5 months of lures built up from my subscription boxes that I'm super pumped to get out and try. One of the things they've sent me a few of is top water frogs. I know lots of people love them, but I've never had any luck with them. How does everyone fish those? Do you only cast over weeded areas or are people throwing those in more open water (ponds I assume?).

I'm also thinking of getting a jigging rod. Last year I got my casting reel/rod and am itching for a new fishing purchase. About twice a year I go out with my uncle and jig for walleye and it's fine with my casting reel but I'd like one specifically meant for jigging/trolling with a line counter.

I'm counting down the weeks until my fishing trip up north the first week of june.

This ice can stay a while longer if you ask me. It's been one of the better seasons that I can remember, I've been out probably a dozen times this year and contemplating going again this weekend if the ice holds up.

My guess is we'll probably have the boat in the water by end of March or early April

I'm pretty pumped actually, in the week after posting that temps have soared here in lower Michigan. Today is in the low 60's and sunny and the ice on most inland lakes is almost non-existent -- just in one week. I'm hoping to get the small row boat out early this March to see if I can catch some early bass.

I'm waiting for ice out and water temps to rise for the crappie spawn.

I'm dying for spring. Last year I really got back into fishing and it's been a LOOOOONG winter.

Right now I'm looking at boats. Was thinking about the kayak thing and just don't think I can do it. I want a big boat. Looking at pontoon boats again. Got my eye on the Lowe SF214. Not "ideal" for fishing but other than getting pushed around in the wind it should work. And a purchase like that has to have some use for the wife/kids too. So, pontoon. A 20' should work.

They're actually making more and more pontoon fishing boats. They're great if you have a few people that want to go out -- or if you want to do some jigging. I see no problem with that. Plus, you can set yourself up with a grill on top lol.

Yes, fishing with jigs. You can get a good angle standing on the deck of a pontoon boat.

Yeah. The 360DEG gate would be a pain in the ass with flippin and pitchin though. Still doable. Would cut back on your distance some.

We got so much fucking snow this year, the rivers won't drop til september. :sigh:

At least it should be a mild fire season.

We got a taste of spring this weekend, it was in the low 50's and sunny's both days. About enough heat to almost get rid of the snow and ice....but it keeps dipping down below freezing and night so the ponds and lakes still have a bit of ice on them. God damn it!

I bought some boat seats with Jon boat clamps for our boat and want to go test them out. Stupid weather.
