I'm in a head-to-head weekly keeper league. We keep 10 MLB and 5 MiLB. Fourteen teams. We start regular positions and DH, 4 starting pitchers and one relief pitcher.

Currently, this is what I've got on my team:

Batters
1B - Joey Votto
2B - Robinson Cano
3B - Rafael Devers
SS - Elvis Andrus
OF - Bryce Harper
DH - Jose Abreu

Pitchers
Clayton Kershaw
Yu Darvish
Gio Gonzalez
Masahiro Tanaka
Cole Hamels

MiLB
Victor Robles
Juan Soto
Leody Taveras
Brent Honeywell
Alex Reyes
AJ Puk

I have to get rid of one MLB and one MiLB.

I traded some pics last season, so I currently have no 2nd round pick or 7th round pick, but I have two 4th round picks.

A guy wants Darvish and Tanaka and has offered me the following:

1st round (3rd overall)
2nd round (23rd overall)
5th round (66th overall)
8th round (99th overall)
Tyler Glasnow

What do you guys think? Let me know if you have any questions.

who would be available with that third pick??

The way I see it, if you are only starting 4 SP and you already have Kershaw, it should be relatively easy to find 3 more to start... But as always in a weekly league and so shallow in how much you start you are going to want good pitching depth...

so my answer is all dependent on who you can get with that 3rd overall pick... If it is a top 25 player in a redraft, I would definitely do it... if it is not a top 50 player player in a redraft, I would not do it...

and a player within that 25-50 is more of a debate...

do you HAVE TO keep 10??

No, I don't have to keep 10, but what would be the advantage of keeping less?

Also, when a league has fourteen teams and they're each keeping 10 MLBers, the likelihood that a top 50 player would be available in round one is just about fuckall.

Pitching depth is important because even though we only start four pitchers, if you can plug in four pitchers every week that have two starts, that can be a big advantage. In fact, the teams that typically get the most points out of their starting pitchers aren't the ones with two or three aces, but teams that have a full stable of mediocre to above average pitchers who mix and match whichever ones have two starts in a given week.

Anyway, I pulled the trigger. I had him move the 8th rounder up to a 7th rounder.

I'd been shopping my pitchers pretty hard with limited interest, so I figured I was likely going to end up just dropping Tanaka (or getting a really late pick) anyway, so esentially, this was me getting a 1st, 2nd, 5th and 7th for Darvish (who comes with question marks anyway). I've now got eight picks in the first five rounds, so I'm going to load up on pitching early.

Yes, for now, it looks like I'm keeping Gio & Hamels. Not great, but certainly respectable in a league where theoretically, the top 140 players are off the board before the draft even starts.

I'm kind of glad I'm not loaded with stud pitchers. Last year I started with Kershaw, Bumgarner, and Darvish. Too many tough decisions when I've got an average guy on the bench with two starts against a Bum or Yu with just one. I'm going to start Kershaw pretty much every week and alternate the other three spots to maximize starts.

What I'm not thrilled about is that now I have 9 MLB and 6 MiLB keepers, which is fine per the rules, but I'd prefer to have another MLB.

not to mention 3 pitching prospects, which just lose so much value in your league... even if they all seem Major league ready...

Maybe so and maybe not. I had Kershaw and Bumgarner as prospects. They didn't lose value.

then see if you can convert them to major leaguers... that's what value is....

So your advice is to not keep any minor league pitchers, huh?

kind of... I mean, of course you keep them, but you'd be better off trading them if you can... for either Major leaguers or for Offensive prospects...

Yeah. I'm not sure you'd do so well in this league.

it was you who just made a trade because you would rather have pitching depth than studs... Which I understand... But doesn't that logic go deeper?? If you have stud pitching prospects, then aren't you basically just hoping they add to your depth?? so what good is their elite prospectness??

Yes.

Good point. Maybe I should keep some more average pitching prospects. . .

not what I am saying... my point is simply that your league values offense way more than pitching... and after making the trade you did,(which I would have not done), you basically don't even need those prospects... and you said you have 9 Major leaguers and 6 minors... why not try to either Improve on Gio/Hamels, or get a 10th major leaguer offensive player??

I never said get rid of them, just that for you team strategy, you are holding players you don't exactly need...

Just realized you received all those picks and Glasgow.

Good deal, imo. I don't think Glasnow is a bust. And expect him to be good soon.
