I say we take him. We would have him for 5 years. He doesn't have to start right away. I have seen a lot of mocks where he is available at #13 which I find shocking.

Let me ask, do you view drafting a QB at 13 more or less important than getting the defensive help that we need and could get at that spot? Thanks!

Skins are really known for their patience and juggling 2 starting caliber qbs.

This would have disaster written all over it. An alex smith benching week 9 and a ton of dead cap space in 2019.

I say go for it. They should do it. Anything to create more apathy and potentially financially ruin Snyder.

I really don't see it all with Allen. He's the least accurate QB in the class and his mechanics are also bad to go along with it. His production just doesn't match that of other top QB's in the class. Yeah, he might have armstrength in the same class as Rodgers, Favre, Mahomes, George, etc to go along with some mobility, but that provides more of a floor than an upside if you think about it. At 13, there needs to be an upside. Probabilistically speaking, what are the chances of Allen being starting caliber year 1? 2, 3 4, 5? Now do the same with elite. Then you have to pay him if he is any good at all. For a guy with this many flaws, it would be unprecedented if he pans out.

If I were the Skins I'd trade up for one of Mayfield or Rosen or just pass on the class altogether.

on the subject i completely agree.

Accuracy > Arm Strength

you should know this first hand.

Derek Carr has a canon with little to no touch. As a result hes probably the most overrated QB in the entire league (IMO he sucks)

Wow, someone agrees with me on Carr on this site? Hello, how are you?

Joking aside, yeah, accuracy is moreorless a must for me when looking at QB's. Doesn't necessarily have to be mechanically pretty all the time (though that is important as well) but the end result needs to be an accurate pass much more often than not. Allen doesn't pass that test for me. If he were rated as a 4th round pick like he probably ought to be, I would be happy to suggest Allen as a lottery ticket, but at the 13th pick the hype for the guy has gotten out of control.

I am not an Allen guy but there is more to accuracy than completion percentage. Allen has inferior players around him which may struggle to get open forcing incompletions, or if game situation commands the risk, interceptions.

Allen is the hardest guy to scout in this draft.

You're correct, but when I say accuracy, I really do mean much more than completion percentage. I'd defend Cam Newton for instance.

Brilliant idea. Just what we need, after three years of QB indecision, insert a first round QB shortly after making a five year commitment to Smith.

What could possibly go wrong??

It's a close call for me. I'm not a Josh Allen fan, but he'd be the last of the big 4 QBs available.

First, who else is still on the board?

You and I generally tend to agree. But after committing to Smith, and knowing how this front office and fan base tends to be about the QB position, no way can they draft a QB in the first round. The level of oh hell no that would ensue should the Redskins start out say 0-3 with Smith would be...

Oh wait never mind, that would be SOP for Ashburn.

Seriously though i think the Redskins should be targeting Payne or Vea, which is why I would not be at all shocked to see them take Ridley or Allen if they are both sitting there.

how the hell is steve deberg going to win games if we dont get him some players ? josh allen ? he can develop and what i saw of him at the sr bowl he can be developed into a darn good qb

but hell lets just get lamar jackson , steve deberg can teach him the RPO offense and he will star, and we can pay 71 mil guaranteed for a clip board holder

I think a talent like Allen is too good to pass up. Dline should be fine with the mcboys, allen. ionman, and Lanier.

Vea and Payne. I think Smith and the OG are gone by then. The FSU safety should be there. By drafting Allen here you can wait until year 3 to actually play him. There could be an out clause in SMith deal by year 3. Its perfect insurance in 2 years. Its actually the smart way to do it. It would be actually planning ahead at our QB situation

Explain how Josh Allen is different from Logan Thomas out of Virginia Tech? Physical talent is not the same as on the field talent.

Payne is a poor mans Allen. Vea fits but only a 2 down player. We can always get a fat boy. I don't see the issue with the two macboys, allen, ionman, and Lanier. By drafting Allen we have long term stability at QB.

SCouts like Allen way better. Allen fits a pro style offense. Wasn't Logan Thomas a 4th round pick or later?

You're definitely correct the NFL likes Allen more, but why do they like him more? Is that a rational and accurate decision? Tim Tebow was also drafted in the 1st round. Let's not let outcomes (or very likely outcomes) sway judgement on the evaluation of a prospect.

But if my recollection is correct on Logan; 4:20 to the Cardinals. I also think that's what Josh Allen probably is in reality and is the single most overvalued player in the draft. Some will argue coaching, but coaches often fall into the trap of trying to develop the undevelopable; and get themselves fired. Have to call a spade a spade somewhere instead of assuming players are balls of clay at a certain point in the draft.

IMO Allen ahs huge upside. He is not ready to play Week1 but he doens have to with our team. that is why the pick makes so much sense.
