I'm not entirely sure, but he led their team among forwards in penalty kill ice time in their last game with over 4 minutes and scored a shorthanded goal in the process too.
He has 1 year left at $1,150,000. I would think a late round pick would do it. The Sabres are tied for 22 at 78.6, but I would think he would have to be an upgrade.

Grabner would really check all the boxes, but I saw the Rags are looking for a 1st in return. Don't see Hextall going that route.
Don't know if he could get around the 1st but he would be a great addition, says he has 23 goals in 55 games which is a real plus that he can score.

We certainly dont value guys like VV and Frenchie but we can add by subtraction by picking up a penalty killer or two and sitting Weise and or Lehtera. My question though was if we stand pat do you think we can have a deep playoff run with the way our Pk is?
Not a chance in hell, most playoff teams will also have a strong PP so we have to get better, Grabner is the only player I see worth a shit as you and Eville have stated, but at what price? Also we have a starting goalie not 100% so what do we do there, just in case? Not sure Buff is ready to part ways with Lehnerer or if he's worth the time so who does that leave? I guess beyond bolstering our PK with either Read or Grabner(somehow) there isn't much else to do with this team, any goalie I see out there is on equal par with Neuvy IMO.

I'm not sure about Read I can't see him hurting the team but Weise and Lehtera have gotten better and they are bigger bodies for the playoffs. Perhaps a simple guy like Pouliot could do the trick and is a cheap option. Leave one of the others in the presser.

D I would leave alone let the young guys play.

G is a tough one I'm still hoping that Stolarz gets healthy and steals the show!

I'm pretty sure Stolarz is out indef from a surgery? I may be wrong though, Maybe weise, Lehtera, read for Lunquist?

Going into the last part of the season with Neuvy as the number 1 is scary.

couldn't find any news on Elliott other than knee injury, doesn't say how bad.:hope:
Elliott was searching for his fifth straight win, but he he had to leave due to a lower-body injury. Philadelphia GM Ron Hextall said an update will come on the netminder's status when the team returns to from their road trip. Michal Neuvirth earned the win in relief and he is probable to get the nod Sunday versus Vegas. Feb 11 - 1:10 AM

I don't think the Flyers will do much at the deadline. Too early still I think. In order to make a deep run in the playoffs they have too many holes IMO.

1. PK is not even close to good enough. If they were trying to make a run, I would call up Read AND trade for Grabner. Now the Schenn trade starts to look better, not only do you have the OHL points leader in Frost, but you have a 2nd pick you could trade for Grabner here, while still have a 1st this summer.

2. The defense won't hold up in the playoffs. Hagg/MacDonald and Gudas/Manning just aren't good enough pairs. You'd have to play Ghost/Provorov 40 minutes a game to make a deep run. In away games, when teams can really focus on getting their top lines out against the bottom 4, they would get gashed. You have to have a 2nd reliable pairing for the playoffs and the Flyers don't have that. I'm not even sold they have a good #3 dman with the way they've been playing lately. I would say all 4 are fine 3rd pair guys, but they need at least an anchor for the 2nd pair and that would be expensive. McDonagh and Johnson are maybe the only 2 guys that might be available that I would look at. That's 1st and prospect+ for McDonagh or at least a 1st for Johnson.

3. If Elliot is out long term, goaltending is an issue. And I don't think a Chad Johnson type really solves that. I think I read somewhere that the Flyers don't plan on bringing Stolarz back much at all this year. Maybe a game or two at the end of the season for the Phantoms just to get him some time. Maybe you could look at Mrazek out of Detroit, but he hasn't been good. Lehner maybe solves the issue, but at what cost? Reading around quickly, looks like Buffalo fans think a 2nd, 3rd, and a prospect (maybe you send a guy like Felix Sandstrom?)

So, in summary, to put themselves in a good position to make a deep run, I think you'd have to:

Trade 1st to NYR for Grabner
Trade 1st, 3rd, and Morin to NYR for McDonagh*
Trade 2nd, Sandstrom to BUF for Lehner**

*basing this off the Shattenkirk trade last year which was a 1st, 2nd, and former 2nd round pick prospect; IMO McDonagh is better than Shattenkirk

**if Elliot is out long term

That's a lot to give up for a run this year. IMO, it's not worth it. Next year is the year I start buying at the deadline. (Plus in this scenario you're fueling the NYR rebuild basically single handedly)

1- yes i would trade for Grabner, the trade for Schenn doesn't look any better as if we had another 65 point player on our team this season instead of Lehtera we might be a cup favorite.
2- I think that is way too much to trade for McDonagh i always though he was overrated as he has always been on good teams and does get hurt a lot, plus Simmer doesn't like him so i dont
3-I really like the trade you have up there for Lehner and i think that may be a possibility if Elliott is out long term. We may find out his status today.
