Konecny already now with a career high in goals and points with 13 and 29 through only 56 games. He is a +8 as well and most all of those points are at even strength.

Once we get a second power play unit that is truly viable or he is moved to the top unit, this guy is going to put up huge numbers. Even without that added production, he has 19 points in his last 20 games. That'll do.
It would be really nice if we could add someone at the dealing who could play the PK. Our biggest area of concern right now is the PK and Elliot going down. For some reason our goalies are always hurt.

Any ideas as to who?

I would love to get Grabner but not for a first but it seems to me that we have a good PKer right in our own system and his name is Matt Read. i dont know how he fell so far off the radar and we are playing scrubs who cant kill penalties like Weise and Lehtera.

Do we buy or sell or stand pat?

We're improving as the season goes on while other teams within our division seem to be falling to pieces, so I like where we are without help. That said, if Elliott is hurt seriously, I would look for a goalie. Not even a starter either, just a good, cheap backup that we covet. We just don't want to be in a position where Lyon has to start meaningful games for us.

I could agree with this if our PK wasn't so bad. Do you think we could make a deep run with the PK as it stands?

I think we have the tools already to be better at penalty killing. I mean players like Couturier and Provorov should be excellent in that area and others like Filppula, Raffl, Laughton, Simmonds, MacDonald, Gudas, Hagg and even Giroux should be decent at their absolute worst. Maybe Patrick can get some extra ice here too.

We were 5.2% better on the penalty kill last season. I mean, do we value guys like PEB and VV that much?

We certainly dont value guys like VV and Frenchie but we can add by subtraction by picking up a penalty killer or two and sitting Weise and or Lehtera. My question though was if we stand pat do you think we can have a deep playoff run with the way our Pk is?

Well, I think even Weise and Lehtera have gotten better throughout the season. These guys could barely string a couple of passes together early on...Lol I don't think they are a real constant on our penalty kill either.

The penalty kill should improve and if it doesn't, we can still overcome it with discipline and a strong power play. So, yes, I think we can make a run at it if we keep growing and improving. These young guys like Konecny and Patrick are really coming on strong. Ghost and Provorov are about to set career highs in points too, rather easily even.

For the PK, bring up Read and get rid of Weiss and/or Lehtera.

I don't know how Read is doing in the minors, but I'm fine with that. I'll take Lehtera over Weise right now though.

None of these players are waivers exempt though, so it's not that simple. We can call up Read and send down Weise, but someone might take either of them, no?

After this year, Lehtera has 1 more year and Weise 2. This is Reads last year. I think if any gets claimed we are on the hook for 50% of the remaining salary. No way anyone claims Lehtera at his cap. If Weise or Read are claimed, no big loss.

Nobody is going to claim any one of those three. Their stock is so low right now i would definitely take the chance especially as you say with all of their salary being way to high for what they contribute

Deadline cap space: $11,376,546

Deadline game plan: The health of goalie Brian Elliott could be the determining factor on the Flyers' deadline moves. They've been scouting the Buffalo Sabres with regularity -- does that mean a trade for either Robin Lehneror Chad Johnson? Perhaps someone like Benoit Pouliot, who could bolster their bottom six? The Flyers would also be in the market for a veteran defenseman who can kill penalties, to help out a unit that is killing at a 74.6 percent rate, third worst in the NHL. But, overall, GM Ron Hextall is likely to roll with what got them here -- an influx of young talent augmenting the team's revitalized

Anyone know if Pouillot is any good on the PK. His cap hit is real light and he would not cost a whole lot to "pry" from the Sabres.

I'm not entirely sure, but he led their team among forwards in penalty kill ice time in their last game with over 4 minutes and scored a shorthanded goal in the process too.
