Travis Wood has been signed by the Tigers to a minor league deal. Its getting to be slim pickings on the free agent market for left handed relievers:
1. Watson
2. Abad
3. de la Rosa
4. Liriano
5. Siegrist
6. Perez
7. Smoker
8. Breslow
Removing Smoker as he was traded to the Pirates.

5. Siegrist
6. Perez
7. Breslow

Sorry tzill, but Susac went to the other Black & Orange. He has a decent shot of making their team too.

I kinda like the fit. Good yard/division to hit in at least and, as you allude to, there's a path to playing time.

A couple of former hotspot prospects popped up in the news today. Dan Runzler signed a minor league deal with the Rays after getting back to the big leagues in 2017 for the first time in 5 years.
Meanwhile, David Aardsma officially announced his retirement, after putting up good numbers in indy ball last year. However, he's 36 years old and faces a steep climb back to affiliate ball with the way this offseason has shaped up.

How the fuck is Lincecum about to turn 34 next season? Wow

Back on topic, the Giants will be there. Timmeh is rumored throwing 95+, which I find unbelievable.

edit: how the fuck did Temmeh win his first Cy Young 10 years ago? That was like last year, right? Jesus Christ
You think that’s bad, THREE whole teams have won the championship since the last time we won one.

I am starting to feel like a Cubs fan over here...

So Parker gets traded/DFA’d? Same with Gregorio?

And Blanco and Gorkys are the same player. Why carry both?

I hope the Giants look into trading Sandoval. Keeping him makes no sense for both the team and for him. Sure, he becomes the back up corner guy and could start if one of the corner guys gets injured but Posey can cover 1st (3rd too if you ask a certain poster here) and any number of the dozen or so infielders the Giants have signed this offseason could handle 3rd base. The Braves are rumored to be looking for a 3rd baseman for a one year commitment. Why not trade for him from the Giants? It makes sense in my head.

The Giants signed Derek Holland to a minor league deal. The question is, will he be the 5th starter or the 2nd lefty in the bullpen? He had an awful 2nd half with the White Sox last year but while his slash against lefties is decent, its not great. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out as his signing could fill either of the two spots the Giants were looking at getting in a minor league deal.

IMO Derek Holland is done. Hasn't been good and healthy in 5 years. If we're taking flyers on pitchers who were good 5 years ago, I hear #55 is a uni that is still available.

Just sayin....

Hey, I don't mind seeing Lincecum come back in for a shot at the rotation or bullpen. If they brought back Blanco (and last year, Morse), why not Big Time?

I guess he kinda kills two birds with one stone? Starting depth and lefty depth? I think he'd make for a pretty solid LOOGY option tbh. He can still reach the mid-90s with his fastball, especially in spurts.

I hope the Giants can do better though. As far as rotation depth they certainly can.

In terms of LOOGYs, there is not a whole lot left out there. The only ones really worth consideration are Tony Watson and maybe Fernando Abad. Any others really wouldn't profile better than Holland (Breslow, de la Rosa, Liriano and O. Perez).

There are still plenty of starters on the market, even if you look outside the top two tiers (i.e. Arrieta and co, and Lynn and co). There are guys like Brett Anderson, Clay Buchholz, AJ Griffin, Ubaldo Jimenez, Anibal Sanchez and Chris Tillman. All have their worts but if they sign a minor league deal, I'd be okay with them coming in to compete.

No wonder the dude looked horrible the first half (but what about the second half?). Why do players do this?

I don't typically understand this either. Like I sometimes get it for fringe guys like Hernandez, finally gets a shot on a lot of playing time but an extended absence could bury him..... but his shitty play could too. I guess it's somewhat excused by coaches knowing he's hurt? Maybe that's why Bochy loved him so much because he was playing through an injury?

Hamate bones typically hurt a players power numbers, so that could explain some, but it shouldn't have really hurt his defense.
