I need to buy one this year. I def want one without the slope adjustment but there's so many choices.

The Nikon cool shot is relatively inexpensive and well reviewed.

What you got and how do you like it?

I have the Bushnell V3 and it hasn't let me down yet. I didn't get the version with the slope stuff so I can't really help you on that part. Having accurate pin distances is a game changer for selecting what club to use. Good luck finding what you're looking for.

I purposely don't want the slope because they're not only illegal for tourney play, they're not supposed to be used to establish a handicap. Beside, if it's downhill add a few yards, uphill, subtract a few.

My buddy has a Bushnell that we both used 'cause I rarely played outside of the league or without him but since I'm at going the be at this new course this year and I'm a spoiled teacher with summers off, I'll be playing without him quite a bit.

....and yeah, it sure does make it easier to make a confident swing knowing the proper yardages.

I don't hit em straight enough to warrant the expense of a range finder.

Good luck in the tourney, though

I used to think that too.....that a general idea was good enough but after using one, it does make a pretty significant difference.

Sounds like you play way more often than me, too.

I probably spend more time on the range than an actual course. Hitting a bucket is way more enjoyable. Shanked one? No worries...I've got another 95 balls in here...

As a result, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of distance and I know how far all my clubs carry. The problem there is, range balls are generally not as lively as gamers. So what the 6-iron does on the range isn't going to be what it does on the course.

I could be at the perfect distance for a club, but the odds I'll hit the club perfect are not good. I could be 10 or 20 yds short, or blade the ball 20 yds past the target...assuming the ball is going in the direction intended.

Sorry, I misread your original post. Another option you might want to look at are the Callaway ones. A buddy of mine has one and it seems to work pretty well...plus they're cheaper than the Bushnells.

Just save some money by buying a 12 pack and driving a cart around without playing.

Lol. My dentist was one of my sponsors at my new club and I promised him I wouldn't be drunk. Damn now I have to make good!

Actually, I can play decently and nobody plays their best on booze or weed. I have a goal of breaking 80 on this course this year. It may take me all season but I think I'll be able to.

A friend actually refers to them as a "ball finder"

I ended up getting a Nikon Coolshot 40 on ebay for $130.00. It's very well reviewed and by all claims comparable to the $400 units.

We'll see.

I have the V3 slope edition...I don't play many tournaments anymore so I use the slope all the time.

I'm finding they're fairly consistent...I have the Bushnell, another guy has the Nikon and our 3rd has the Callaway laser...we're normally all the same or within a yard.

Truth be told...I'm starting to like my Garmin watch almost as much.

How accurate is your Garmin and do you find that all of the courses you play are on it? It's been a while since I looked at rangefinder apps but back then they seemed to be off by 10-15 yards which is less trustworthy than estimating based on the course markers.

The Garmin watch has all the courses I've played in town and out of town so far and pretty much everything I could play in this area are on it.

Accuracy...I don't A/B compare much except on par 3s, but normally within a yard or so of the middle of the green yardage.

I use both during the round all the time. The reason I like the watch is front and back of green at a glance...when the pin matters I use the laser.

I have the V3. I like it. I don’t play enough to a have a good feel for distance. The range finder gives me a pretty good ballpark

I have a flag in my front yard and a mat in the drive that I can adjust from 80 to 110 yds. I usually leave it at around 90yds and practice taking a little off the wedge. I look forward to really knowing the distances I'm setting it up for...supposed to come Thursday.

Nice...I had an acre property for a few years and had made a little makeshift green in the back right corner...it was about 80-90 yds...fun while it lasted....but now it only takes 30-40 mins to cut the grass on this .35 acre lot I have now.

Congrats on the new toy...with your wedge game, you might make a few birdies out the gate at your new spot.

I just signed up to play in a 3 day tourney in Myrtle Bch this summer. About 22-24 guys in the field...one round to flight and 2 round tourney. I've played with a few of the guys before and they have some game...should be fun.
