He actually is good imho just didn’t jive here
You could do a lot worse. He's a "by the book" type coordinator that doesn't really utilize his personnel very well. Or at least he's horrible at creating a gameplan that focuses on his players' strengths. Not to mention he's one of the worst situational OC's out there.

If Cleveland doesn't have the athleticism to overcome his scheme's deficiencie then this will be a disaster if they hire him.

Haley would do a good job in CLE imo...I think he did a good job in PIT overall.

I think he rides his stars too much, but I think any OC would do that. My problems with him are two-fold.

1...big game, game planning. Typically when the games are the biggest, you're facing the toughest competition. Since 2012 the games vs BAL, NE, playoff games.

2...RZ, creativity. IMO not enough players get touches in this area.

Honestly, it's probably a good move for them.

He was absolutely an impediment for a contending team, but for a team like the browns that would like to one day sniff at a winning season, or even have a starting QB with more wins in Cleveland than the Steelers starting QB, yeah Haley will help.

Let's look at this from an educated perspective......

The guy sucks, all the talent on our offense and he couldn't get the job done.
He yelled at Ben like he's never played the game before, he couldn't get a 4th and inches converted to save his life, he's never played the game, Hell probably never touched a football in his life.......

That being said, Cleveland was 0 and 16........
What do they have to lose?????

He's perfect for Cleveland, 1 win and he has matched the browns total wins for 2 years.

Yeah he will be the HC after next season I bet.

Folks that didn't see him in Pittsburgh every week think this is a great move.

Haley's had an interesting career. I think his track record does suggest that he is good at designing a passing attack and I think he should at least get some credit for working with some of the younger receivers for Pittsburgh. Yes, I watched him bungle short yardage and red zone situations - You have to take the good with the bad. But, it's important to keep in mind that Hue Jackson is a pretty good offensive mind.... Maybe he felt that Haley could offer some new perspectives and they could combine to fix that offense.

That's a great point. Hadn't considered that. 2 offensive minds should be able to overcome Haley's shortcomings.

You know... You have to wonder how well Haley's schemes will work against the Steelers in particular. After all, those plays he practiced had to be working for him to have confidence to keep them in the playbook. The bubble-screen BS in particular probably worked great when the Steelers CB's were lining up 12-15yds off the LOS.

Unless Hue has changed. That will be an interesting meeting room. In retrospect, he's changed some just by making to overture, I guess.

I would give Coach Mann (congrats on retirement) most of the credit on the WR development, but Haley was not all bad in PIT obviously.

His failures were more detail oriented. There are lot of these, but this one is still fresh, you might remember if you saw this game.

Week 15 vs NE...very end of the game, the Steelers end up botching an attempt to at least kick a game tying FG...some blame to go all around, Ben and Tomlin included, but not be ready offensively for whatever after 15-20 mins of waiting for a ruling made zero sense to me.

You can have a great game plan, you can execute on each and every play between the 20's, but in the end pay dirt is in the red zone!!! If you can't game plan and execute to put up 6, your going to be measured by all those missed opportunities.

Truth. I hope we play Cleveland within the first 2-3 weeks of the season just in case though. If Butler gets torched by Haley then at least they can put Butler on the chopping block early enough to salvage the season lol.

But in all honesty, how much of the D is actually Butler and how much is Tomlin????

And because Tomlin has a knack for putting his foot in his mouth..... his next man up theory is bullshit.
Do they draft or acquire 2 linebackers. One to possibly replace Shazier and/or one to back him up. That was a major fail for the D this year. No one to step in, yes they grabbed Spence when Shazier went out. But if Spence was that good, Why the fuck did they let him walk away in the first place????

It's very disheartening the many shortcomings this team has, and each and every one of those shortcomings leads right back to the same damn thing......COACHING.

I so very much miss the days of Noll and Cowher!!!!

Well if the defense is still a disaster then Butler will be the next to go, even if it is Tomlin's fault. But that'll get us 1 step closer to Tomlin. If Butler's replacement doesn't make an impact then Tomlin would be the next to go.

Tomlin needs to let Butler have full control. He needs to stop f*cking with the chess board and let the people hired do their jobs.
