Ben is one of the better players, despite the jumper shortcomings.

Dude is a flat out stud.

Size, Speed, Vision, Unselfishness...It's almost unfair.

Donovan had a rocky start.

But, he has come on with a vengance.

Not only does he lead all Rookies in scoring, he's 4th in the NBA in 4th quarter scoring.

There are no wrong answers here.

Both guys and Tatum are legit candidates.

Completely agree with all of this. There are probably 4 or 5 guys that would easily have won RoY last year.

All these awards are popularity contests.

Was Russell Westbrook really the MVP last year? From a pure basketball sense, no. Lebron was the MVP. But the voters base their vote on other factors.

Regardless of whether Simmons should or should not be an all-star, he is a rookie who is likely to be an all-star. There have only been 3 rookies to make an all start team in the last 20 years. Griffin, Yao Ming, and Tim Duncan.

Now,granted, this is one of the strongest rookie classes in a very long time. So it is far from certain that Simmons will win RoY. But being an All Star will certainly help.

I think reporters get voter fatigue and take Lebron for granted.

Plus, What Westbrook did was Historic.

I also think the only thing that has diminished the wow factor for " The next Lebron James " is that the " Current Lebron James " is having a career year.

I still am surprised how Fultz and Ball's poor shooting was not picked up on in pre draft workouts. I think there is so much hype in this league. But their are gems that were not pre year ROY favorites and in time they will continue to rise to the top. Its Mitchells IMO to lose but Simmons early lead will be tough to overcome

Ben Simmons poor mid-range/outside shooting also.

Ben also made a wide-open 15 footer last week that he shot with his right hand. If that goes in, everyone would be saying he should switch shooting hands.

I might add that if Mitchell were playing on an Eastern conference team, he just might be on the allstar bubble too. Most of the star power and the big names are out West.

That's fair. I would say, however, that Mitchell really turned it up in the past month. Simmons came out of the gate running and has been really good all season so he's in their minds longer.

What is with that fucking delay and where did it come from?

I thought his 2 months off was supposed to fix that.

Maybe that weird hitch is him 'thinking' instead of just flowing... as if he is (still) in the initial stages of changing his shot and has to do it step-by-step in his head.

Hopefully it's that and not lingering injury.

Jayson Tatum has been put forward as a contender to Ben Simmons' seemingly inevitable roll to being named NBA Rookie of the Year. As evidenced by Thursday's meeting between the 76ers and Celtics at the O2 Arena in London, Simmons is in for a serious challenge.

After seeing his debut season in the league wiped out by a foot injury, Simmons has proved worth the wait for Sixers fans this campaign. The 21-year-old Australian is averaging 16.9 points, 7.5 assists and 8.4 rebounds – if he maintains those numbers for the remainder of the season, he will statistically be the best rookie since the legendary Oscar Robertson in 1960-1961.

Simmons came up third among the Eastern Conference guards after the second returns of fans' All-Star voting for next month's game, and speaking in London earlier this week he suggested that making the cut would put him out of sight for the rookie award.

The confident point guard said: "I want to be an All-Star so if I'm an All-Star then I know I'm Rookie of the Year, I already know I'm the best rookie in the league."

Standing at 6-10, Simmons cuts an imposing figure in the backcourt and he looked nigh-on unstoppable in the early stages in London. In a direct matchup with Tatum in the opening quarter, he spun away from his man, crossed the paint and hooked in for two.

But Boston possess the highest rated defense in the league and Simmons was unable to maintain his free-scoring start – the lack of a jump shot proving detrimental as the Celtics roared back from 22 points behind to claim an 114-103 victory. Along with his free throw, it is the main area the Australian needs to improve.

Sixers head coach Brett Brown acknowledged the fact after the game: "Ben can be anything he wants to be.

"We all get excited. His growth is going to be his free throw, his growth is going to be his rise-up jump shot, maybe eventually to a three. It will make his offensive game more complete because his skill package along with his athleticism, it's very unique, very special."

Simmons excels when driving into the paint at speed, drawing defenders towards him and creating space for his teammates. When that does not work, though, he regularly comes up short.

However, with Tatum there are fewer glaring deficiencies in his game.

The third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Tatum is third in the NBA in terms of 3-point field goal percentage. Defensively, he became the second player to record three steals and six blocks in a game by the age of 20 against the Nets on Jan. 6.

He appears a more reserved figure on court and goes about his business away from the glaring spotlight that Simmons has to deal with. His playing time has been boosted by the season-ending injury sustained by Gordon Hayward, but he has proved himself a useful component in Brad Stevens' lineup.

The 19-year-old endured a quiet start in London but posted 11 points off 5-of-9 shooting from the floor in the third quarter alone to help inspire the Celtics' rousing comeback.

That Fultz shot is wtf level bad.

I really thought he would be a very good player(still might).

Looks like I nailed it on Mitchell tho when I told all my clown pals he was the guy I wanted the wolves to get.

He's either still hurt or someone on Philly's staff have fucked him up (possibly both). He did not shoot that poorly prior to being there. Someone somewhere is really screwing that kid over

Exactly. There's something going on with him still.

I watch a lot of college hoops and the kid could really play

It sure sounds like Fultz is all kinds of screwed up. Whether there is some still physical issue lingering or, more likely, his head is all kinds of screwed up.
