I do think he is a good coach, just had nothing but crap to work with. There is a reason Gruden jumped right on him.
Yes they have a Raider connection, that is the main reason.

Those of you wishing for a more higher profile name, I mean was that really an option? :noidea:

If you are a big time OC candidate are you going to a team where offense is an afterthought and where very little overall payroll is spent?

Seahawks is a place you should be able to get the very best available DC money can buy. It's not even middle of the league in desirability for OC.

I was hoping perhaps for a upcoming offensive mind from the college ranks hoping to break into the NFL, but I think Pete was looking for someone to follow his offense philosophy rather then someone that had their own philosophy. A little deflating at the moment, but we really don't know much about the new OC other then being familiar with his father, so lets give it a chance.

Here is how his offenses have faired:

In nine seasons as OC, the best his offense finished was 11th in the NFL... He's had success w/ the running game at times but not so much with the passing game... Nothing to write home about... Trust the coaches signed the right guy... Looks like Pete could be focusing on the '08-'10 stat sheet in terms of running the ball... We're definitely going back to his philosophy when he first took over the team...

This was the only real reason I wasn't in favor of dumping Bevell. It wasn't his offense, it was Pete's. New guy coming in will still be given a 30-40% total payroll and be told to run a very conservative offense designed just not to fuck up and score only enough to win.

If I was an up and coming college guy I wouldn't want my first NFL gig to be one with that much limiters put on it. You want the chance to run wide open.

Having Wilson and Baldwin are two pluses, but on a balance sheet with a whole lot of minuses.

Well the DC position is not available at this time. Richard is still the DC. As for the OC Looks like Brian Schottenheimer QB coach of the Colts may get hired. Not very inspiring IMO.

I thought Richards was let go

While I am still happy Bevell is gone, I am disappointed that they went with a retread. Like many others I was hoping for an outside the box hire.

I look at the above list and one question immediately comes to mind. So he's never had a decent QB? I guess he had Favre for one year, after GB put him out to pasture. He got to watch Favre lead the league in interceptions that year. Wilson will easily be the best NFL QB he's ever had run his offense. In this era of the NFL, in most cases, a team won't get very far without a quality QB.

So, I'm not going to judge him on past performance.

I expected the OC hire to be an experienced guy vs a young up-and-comer. Seems to be mixed reviews on Schotty, but I'm willing to give him a chance to show what he can do with a top caliber QB. But like others have said, the ground game/line just has to be fixed for anything to work.

I actually doubt highly that as a team we're going back to the ground n'pound little risk offensive model. We may not go WCO, but I still see a continuing emphasis on throwing.

Guess we'll see.

I don't think there's a running back on the roster that has proven their body can hold up to being the feature back of a ground 'n pound offense.
