I'd probably have to look up the quality of players he's had to work with as a coordinator before I form an opinion of him one way or another. The rankings his teams have had haven't been particularly impressive, but he's going to have a lot of talent to work with here. His biggest challenge, as it would be for anyone they hired, is going to be the offensive line. If he can fix that himself or find someone who can, then I think the talent is sufficient at running back to get that part of the offense back on track.

Any coordinator we hire would also presumably not have to worry about any position coach that was hired getting an assistant head coach title and the presumption of being able to throw his weight around in the process. I wasn't behind-the-scenes for the Bevell/Cable era to know whether or how much they clashed when it came to how to run the offense, but if there was any question about who was in charge of the offense before, I'm fairly certain that Carroll isn't going to hire the new coordinator and immediately undermine that person's authority by giving a position coach any reason to believe that they outrank the coordinator or have any final say in either the gameplan or personnel decisions outside of their specific position group. Giving a position coach an assistant head coach title to go with it, in hindsight, wasn't the best idea and could very well have undermined Bevell's efforts to one degree or another.

I'm encouraged by his age. We'll have to see if past level of success was about the teams he worked for, or about his talent level.

Was really hoping they would hold out for defillipo.

Im pretty sure schottenheimer runs a completely different offense than we are used to so this should be interesting.

One of the reasons he may not have been great in STL could have been because Bradford could never stay healthy. And when Bradford was injured (which was of course nearly all the time), you had guys like Sean Hill back there.

His time with the Rams is a complete wash IMO.

I like this hire. He is all about running the ball and sees eye to eye with Pete on this issue.
If you want a high powered prolific O, Pete isn't the HC for that. In case anyone forgot, Pete's idea of how to win is
1) A strong run game.
2) A strong D
3) Solid ST's

Snugs and a couple of others will come to hate our new OC because they do not favor how Pete likes to have his team built.

Maybe he'll work out for yall, but he was fired after just one season as UGA's OC, and for good reason.

Seattle could do much better IMO.

Media members, fans stunned that Seattle is reportedly hiring Brian Schottenheimer as the offensive coordinator

this was basically the reaction from minny fans when we hired bevell. i will wait and see, but if he is "hot garbage" then carroll will be looking for a new job soon.
None of that matters. We won a SB with Bev as our OC. That alone debunks Minny fans opinion of him.
What does matter is that we equip our new OC with the weapons he will need to succeed and provide an OL coach that helps him carry out his plan. Primary weapons will be a bell cow RB, better OL results, and a blocking TE with hands would be a good start.

Pete was fired in his prior 2 NFL gigs.
Gotta give this guy a chance.

Gotta admit, its another head scratcher from the Hawks. Getting damaged goods in Walsh , Releasing Freeney, trading for Graham for a top 5 center, getting basketball players to protect Wilson, draft day mistakes year after year etc.... hard to feel good about this.

I figured Brian Schottenheimer was unemployable at this point.

I get that he hasn't had much to work with but he also hasn't done anything.

Give him a chance sure, but Marty's son has been a failed NFL OC before, and couldn't hack it in the college ranks either. Hopefully for yall, he's learned from past mistakes.

I suppose I see the appeal that Brian has to Pete since Pete wants to basically do what the 09 Jets did.

Control the clock by running the ball, make a few plays in the passing game, and play great defense.

But if I was a Hawk fan I'd think it's a really underwhelming hire. You have Wilson at QB so it's hard for me to believe you can't find a more creative and innovative OC that would be willing to take the job.
