*Spoilers in post*

I was between Meh and Solid, I voted solid but probably more meh as I thought about it more. It was messy that's for sure. It's like an IMDB 6.5'ish. That's kind of meh-solid.

They should've eliminated pink hair lady (can't remember her name) and had that filled by Ackbar. Finn and Asian lady needed to go away. They save some animals and remove a saddle and she's like, "Now it's worth it." Hey lady, DID YOU FORGET ABOUT THE FUCKIN' SLAVE KIDS and people dying to the Empire!? But no, since it's Disney we need to show that "WOMEN ARE HEROES TOO!" and "WE LOVE ANIMALS!" /slit wrists

The lightspeed ship thing was a cool FX sequence but made no sense whatsoever. If it was that easy you'd just suicide light speed the Death Star, the giant planet Death Star thing, and the likely Death Star thing giant laser threat blowy up stuff in Episode 9.

What's weird about Episode 8 is it feels like Episode 9. They kill Snoke, Luke saves everyone, the Empire squadron (most of it) gets defeated and they lose the head commander dude, and Luke dies. Like, the movie didn't leave us with much to look forward to in the next movie. We know that Kylo and Rey have to close their story and that's it... So Episode 9 is what? Probably another giant blowy up thing that will be a BIGGER planet that will like..... blow up the Galaxy or some shit I dunno.

Other then that, it was okay. Andrew Driver/Daisy Ridley are literally carrying the franchise forward. They are the only interesting things to watch in the film and they were on screen quite a bit so that was nice. Other then that it's a pretty forgettable trilogy.

I do find it hilarious that Leia (unless they do a plot twist with Luke) is the only one alive in the movie yet out of the actual actors Disney carried forward (alive initially) is the only one dead, LOL. Not trying to be distasteful but the irony is comical.

I saw on another site in the comment section talking about this. Paraphrasing it,

"Even if you left everything, plot holes and logic gaps included, in that part of the movie but just replaced Holdo with Ackbar it would be 100x better if they just did this:

"We're running out of fuel and no where to go. They're gonna pick us off. We're trapped!" - some rando

"No...we're not..."- Ackbar, who then lightspeeds his ship into The Supremacy"

Fan boys everywhere would have jizzed.

Yah, I dunno if it'd even be fanboys. Like why introduce a COMPLETELY new character at this point (who just dies anyway) and shy away from not only an interesting looking fish dude, but of course an iconic Star Wars character? Because.............. I guess Disney will empower girls to dye their hair pink? So maybe Disney got $5M from the pink hair dye industry? Whatever. Now I wouldn't have a problem if Disney went their own way and developed a completely new story with pink hair lady, but CLEARLY you want to leverage the old characters and bring up the other story (because face it, kids aren't gonna know who Leia/Luke/Han are anyway without watching) so FUCKING USE IT.

And then there's this mutiny from whatshis'HI I'M THE NEW HAN SOLO BUT NOT REALLY'face guy which does nothing anyway. And then when the MOST INTERESTING part comes with Kylo/Rey and the fact they could join up (dark/light) and take the film in a COMPLETELY fresh way which should've been a majority of the movie... Kylo goes full dark DESTROY mode and Rey goes full light NOBLE mode, which... is absolutely nothing new/original despite your attempts to add a bunch of original stuff which was useless. Like what was the point of these films?

I mean they WAY over complicated the film. Goes back to my point, messy. A mess? Eh, I wouldn't go that far... but messy for sure.

Actually the more I think/talk about it, it's making me think this was a pretty shit movie lol. Since Disney took over, the characters are actually WORSE than the prequels. Watto, Qui Gon, Darth Maul, Sebulba... Jesus I actually remember those names more than pink hair lady, Han Solo guy, EVERYONE new from Rogue One (I can't tell you any of their names, Uh, Felicity Jones played the protagonist), and BB Gun? BB3PO? SOME FUCKING DROID TO MAKE KIDS LAUGH!

I think if you take the names Star Wars out of it, and change the character names out of it and it would be a solid movie. But for a Star Wars movie I'd give it a C at best. Create new characters who you portrayed as pivotal then kill them off cheaply, just nothing was Star Wars about it except the Kylo/Rey part. Everything else seemed like a low budget ripoff of the original trilogy battle scenes and a random good SciFy movie.

Are they really?

Last I heard they were planning on it, but that was about a year ago and I haven't heard much since. Rumor is that Ford was reluctant to do The Force Awakens and his 2 conditions with Lucasfim would be that Han Solo is killed off in Episode 7 and that he gets another Indy movie. They're probably waiting it out at this point and hoping he goes senile and forgets about the 2nd condition before it happens.

Yeah I'd be shocked if we don't see the Knights of Ren in the next movie. We briefly see them in a flashback in 7. Luke briefly mentions them in 8. The plan definitely appears to feature them in 9, especially now with Snoke and Phasma gone. The only First Order characters we have left now are Kylo and Hux. My guess is that we'll learn that for some reason Kylo couldn't have them around while Snoke was still in charge. Even though he wasn't a Sith, I think Snoke might have believed in the "Rule of 2" but Kylo does not.
I was under the impression the knights of ren were the red guys that Kylo and Rey slaughter after killing snoke.

I am not a Star Wars guy, haven't seen any of them outside of the original trilogy (which I saw so long ago that I couldn't even rate it), so I'll ask you guys.

It's normal for critic and audiences to give somewhat significantly different ratings on the same movie, but it's rarer when there are a large number of critic reviews (as opposed to just 20 critic reviews). It's rarer when it's a new film (such that audiences today aren't retroactively going back and viewing films with slightly different lenses). And it's extremely rare when it's a huge blockbuster film.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi got a 90% from critics on RT, but a 49% from the audience. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Any explanations?

Oh, and for reference, Rouge One: A Star Wars Story got a 85% from critics and 87% from the audience.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens got a 93% from critics, and an 88% from the audience.

A good number of Star Wars fans thought the movie blew apart a lot of the mysticism around the force. Luke Skywalker refuted the force and then joins Obi Wan in the netherworld etc.

I don't understand it myself. I don't think it was that controversial.

I liked it and thought it was pretty good overall.

I liked Rogue One a good deal as well.

So far I think this series is second to the original 3

I grew up with the originals but certainly not a major fan. My son wanted to see Last Jedi a few weeks ago so we went. I liked it for whatever its worth. It was kinda cool to pick the story back up with some of the same characters I grew up with.

I had no problem with a disenchanted Luke who, in the end, died like a true Jedi. I like that battle a good deal, especially the brush off of death by Luke
I liked the battle between Rey and little Darth. Liked her moral and mental triumph over the dark side
I was surprised by Smoak's death and had no problem with it.
who was captain phasma?
The Rose/Finn thing didn't bother me. He wasn't worthy of Rey anyways
I didn't notice CGI chewbacca.

I thought the saving of Princess Leia was dumb.
Yeah the casino scene was kinda stupid.

Luke wouldn't have tried to kill his sisters son. Luke wouldn't be a little bitch and not help the resistance/train Rey. Luke's death was stupid. If he was going to die anyways, why not go to the fucking planet and spark hope for the rebellion while the rest escape? LAME

The battle with the red guards was cool.

Smoaks suppose to be this omnibeing who was able to trick Rey and Kylo ren, yet cant hear the rattling light saber next to him and dies like a chump? He was suppose to be this big badass baddie but dies like a chump.

How is Rey so good at the force and using a lightsaber? It takes years and years of training, but this girl who came from no Jedi family line is a beast at it? BULLSHIT

Rose was stupid af. She falls in love with Finn in a 12 hour time span? And the scene where she flies into his ship when he was going to die like a hero; that would probably kill them both. And how do they get back to the base with no transportation while in front of a bunch of ATATs and firepower?

I agree he wasnt worth of Rey and I dont think they were ever intended to be more than friends.

Everyone on the resistance was unlikeable. Like Rose referring to the rich aliens as "the worst people in the galaxy" before tearing up their casino and town. Some hero.

Since we're just giving our own opinions instead of answering the OP's question. :) Here's mine....

I didn't hate the movie but don't really think it was very good (by Star Wars standards). So far I have the same feeling about this trilogy as I did the prequels after their first 2 installments but not really for the same reason. I was entertained by all of them because they are Star Wars, but wasn't even close to being blown away and not excited about re-watching them any time soon. The original 3, Rogue One, and even Episode 3 I enjoy re-watching now and then but not so much any of the other movies.

A lot of the criticisms of the movie I consider valid but would have been willing to overlook them if it had an interesting story, which in my opinion it did not. I feel like most of us could have written as good of a story and many of you probably could have written better. I don't mean the exact dialogue and every last detail but the general overall story arc was just kind of boring, with a few interesting beats thrown in there.

The characters in this trilogy (old and new) aren't that great, but would maybe be better if not for all the forced and poorly timed humor attempts. A defected storm trooper seemed like a very interesting idea, and way to get another perspective. In canon material outside the movies, Wedge Antiilles was once a pilot for the Empire so I thought it would be cool to maybe see something similar in the movies but nope. Finn might be the worst character in all the Star Wars movies and no I haven't forgotten about Jar Jar Binks, nor am I faulting the actor for it. This is more of a problem with Episode 7 than 8 though so I'll just leave it at that. Kylo Ren also had lots of potential to be a cool character but again his arc is pretty lame. He just wants to be bad for the sake of being bad even though he gets urges to turn to the light once in a while. We've seen good characters be tempted and even succumb to the dark side for various reasons that made sense, but Kylo just wants to be bad because he learned that his Grampy was bad. Sure they explained why he turned on Luke but from Kylo's perspective, he simply perceived Luke as the bad guy in that scenario. Rey is a Mary Sue and the rest are all just okay.

Agreed, it's almost like they are recycling some storylines/ideas from the original trilogy
