My wife has a Toyota 4 Runner. It's great. Not really expensive. But she got the loaded one with leather and sunroof. I'm a big Toyota fan in general. Quality. One of my friends has a Subaru. It is also a quality vehicle. If you don't care about how it looks I would probably go Subaru. If you do then go Toyota. Can't wrong either way.

Yeah my fiance has a Corolla and it has lasted her forever and nothing major has gone wrong with it

It doesn't have to be on my list either. The list was just the one's I could think of off the top of my head

I'm looking (slowly, don't think I'll buy for a couple months still unless I'm "forced" to make a decision) at a lot of the same vehicles. Some of my big factors may be slightly different than yours though. 1. I drive about an hour each to and from work, and im going towards lake effect snow on the lakeshore. So AWD is hugely important to me. 2. I drive two hours each way to get and then drop back off my three kids every other weekend, so interior space is important too.

I have kind of found $25-32k is pretty good pricepoint to avoid the huge deprecation of new cars but still getting all the cool midern features. I really like the crossover types that drive more like a big car, vs the body on frame type that drice like small trucks. I've driven a handful of these and so far love the Acura MDX, and the Honda Pilot. I didn't like the 4 runner or explorer at all. I have always liked the Grand Caravans, but haven't actually test drove one, but the pos Dodge Journey that I did test drive was one of the worst things I've ever driven. The new Volvo and the Q7 are both supposed to be fantastic, but both out of my sweet spot. I drove a Ford Edge and it felt so underpowered that I almost wrote it off, but the v6 ecoboost is supposed to be a complete transformation. The inside is a Ford, not bad enough to write it off, but does feel cheaper than every other car I test drove so far. Had like 5 people tell me about how much they love their Chevy Traverse, I'll try one out soon. Mazda CX-9 always get a ton of love from the magazine's but just from the specs they always seem underpowered to me, and they sell so many fewer than the other makes that I always just wonder if they pay the magazine' the most or something. I'll probably test drive one soon though. That's kind if where I'm at.

The Explorer is by far the best solid value of all those. The thing drives like a MB and has great utility. Still, I like the Maserati Levente with the big Ferrari V8.

I just drove a rental Rogue for a week and I'd take it off the list. No guts and it feels cheap inside. I've owned several Nissans through the years and am generally a fan, but I was thoroughly unimpressed by the Rogue.

Drove an Explorer for years (just traded it in about four months ago). It's a good car and is a good value. It does feel big though. Sight lines are challenging and it's a pain to park in tight spaces. Mine was a 2011 and it was pretty gutless, but I hear the newer versions are a little better.

I've driven the Rogue a few times when my car was in the shop and I didn't get that same feeling. Granted I think they gave me the highest most amenities available options.

The rogue is a cheap scaled down version of the Murano. If you’re gonna go mid size SUV with Nissan you gotta go pathfinder or murano

Murano is only slightly larger than the rogue but they don’t try to cram as much seating in there. A bigger emphasis is placed on comfort. Might also look at something the a Subaru cross trek or outback.
